@Rainmaker1973 This is an urban myth that never ceases to die. Pacific salmon is perfectly safe to eat, but more expensive because it is caught wild and not farmed. I have eaten sushi made from wild keta (“chum”) salmon in Hokkaido long before salmon sushi was affordable.

@giulio_mattioli @Gior8g In 2009 when I worked at LSE, half of the economics department was Italian. A casual scan of the top US universities reveals that there are Italian researchers everywhere. Italy’s problem is Italian institutions, not lack of talent or ambition.

@alz_zyd_ Perhaps swimming appeals to Asian parents because it’s safe and because you can improve enormously with enough discipline (that’s also why it appeals to us as immigrants!) but I wonder what happens when swim practices start to affect school grades…

@alz_zyd_ Have you ever been to a swim meet? 70% Asian. Parents aren’t allowed on the pool deck, so some moms give the kids walkie-talkies to berate them between heats for not trying hard enough.

@HofmeisterAusLU @ReviewerGolden Das Problem mit der Zuwanderung ist zum einen, das Einwanderer auch Eltern haben, und zum anderen, dass qualifizierte Einwanderer, die auch etwas beitragen, meistens auch nicht mehr Kinder haben als die Deutschen. Einwanderung rettet kein Umlagesystem.

@DrLuetke Französische Kinder sind zwar wohlerzogen, aber französische Erwachsene legen im Trotz dann ganze Städte lahm, wenn das Rentenalter von 62 auf 64 angehoben werden soll.
