@johnkempf Are you aware of any implications high Cl would have on NO3 absorption by plants? Cl has been slowly coming down once I discountined the calcium chloride product. However the high Cl still remains in the old leaves. It hasn’t been moved out
@johnkempf Hi John, would you have insight as to why I would see an increase in NO3 over the growing season? No N was applied, NH4 steadily declining, nearly all micronutrients in balance. I did see total N dropping. I’m farming wine grapes on fairly high OM% soil. Thanks!
@johnkempf Yes that is the case, particularly in the old leaves. Cl has been high all year because of a calcium chloride product I used early season. Most of the pressure/damage has been done within the last 3-4 week however. I’ll do more to address total N, thank you John

@johnkempf We received our latest results back yesterday and they show a continued increase in NO3. I made two amino acid N applications post the 08/12 results to address N deficiencies as well
@johnkempf I see, so it seems as though there aren’t really any good cases for limiting calcium in fruit and vegetable production? Thank you for the response
@johnkempf hi John, I asked this question in the recent AMA Webinar but it maybe didn’t come across very well. This is a blog post of yours on Cell Division for Fruit Size and Quality. In what cases would you want to limit fruit size? Would this mean limiting Ca? Thank you
@johnkempf Hi John, I had a question about elevated NH4 levels in sap for wine grapes. I’ve seen it (slowly) trending down over the season. But is there any way to bring it into balance faster? In your experience, what other nutrients can help bring down excessive NH4?
@dieworkwear As a blue collar worker who dresses up a few times per year for formal events (parties, weddings, etc) where would you suggest they start? Grey and navy?
@johnkempf Hi John, what would you suggest is the best way to encourage perennials to absorb more Ca from the soil? I have good B numbers on sap, but still low Ca. Soils have generous amounts of Ca (1500-6000ppm). My thoughts are foliar apply more B, or spray it on the soil?
