Meet Moni, the gentleman sitting across from me.
About 11 years ago, a friend introduced me to him when I needed a handyman. One project led to another, and over the years we became friends.
Last week, Moni came to my uncle's house to help with a project. As we were talking, it hit me that despite knowing each other all these years, we had never actually gone out to eat together. So I invited him to lunch. He asked if he could bring a friend, and of course I said yes.
When we arrived, I realized his friend was a soccer referee I knew from my 15 years of coaching boys' competitive soccer. Then I walked inside and another referee I knew was already waiting. What a small world.
We enjoyed an incredible Persian lunch in Moore. They are all originally from Iran, and I loved hearing about their hometowns, their journeys to the United States, and the experiences that shaped their lives.

It's amazing how friendships develop. Sports create connections. Great food brings people together. And meaningful conversations remind us that, despite our different backgrounds, we often have far more in common than we realize.
