@Locallearning2 Both ‘underneath’ and ‘beneath’ are the children of ‘nether’ meaning ‘low’ (eg ‘nether regions’ and ‘Netherlands’.)

You could equally argue that ‘underneath’ would suffice and give ‘beneath’ the chop. Unless you have some kind of HIDDEN AGENDA?

@AdamCSharp Sorry Adam, the ‘English is spoken in both places rationale’ is inadequate. The language is spoken in both places, yes, but the phrase ‘John Doe’ is not. Ask just about anyone in the UK who John Doe is and they will look at you blankly.
