🚨Jorge Jesus on Cristiano Ronaldo’s role for Portugal against Denmark:
🗣️ Jorge Jesus: “I respect Cristiano Ronaldo enormously, but respect does not mean he has to be the main character every time Portugal plays. Cristiano is 41 now. He is not the same player he was at 25, 28 or even 32, and pretending otherwise would be unfair to him and unfair to the team. I didn’t call him up because I believe Portugal must play every match around him. I called him because he still has experience, personality and a level of leadership that can be valuable to this group.
“But against Denmark, if I need players to press for 90 minutes, run behind the defence, recover the ball and constantly change positions, I will choose the players who can give me that today. I am not going to put Cristiano on the pitch simply because his name is Ronaldo. That would be managing the reputation of a player rather than managing the national team. If I need him for 20 minutes, he plays 20. If I need him for 30, he plays 30. And if I don’t need him, he can sit beside me and help the younger players understand what it means to represent Portugal.
“Cristiano has already had his time as the player everyone had to build around. He doesn’t need me to pretend otherwise. His greatest contribution now may not be scoring the winning goal or playing every minute. It may be walking into that dressing room, looking at the younger players and telling them what he learned after 20 years at the highest level. That is leadership too. I want him to understand that being important doesn’t always mean being on the pitch.
“And I know some people will be angry because they hear ‘Cristiano Ronaldo’ and immediately think he must play. But I cannot select a player because of his history. I select him because of what he can give me today. Cristiano gave Portugal extraordinary moments, but those moments belong to the past. Against Denmark, I need to win the match in the present. If that means Cristiano starts, he starts. If it means he sits, he sits. Portugal owes Cristiano respect, but Portugal owes the team the truth.”
Football is finished, man. Soon, there won’t even be many people left who actually know how to watch it.
Look at Dani Olmo yesterday. He put in a reference level performance as a No.10, one of those games where you can actually learn something by watching him — and barely anyone said a word.
Then you wake up today and X is flooded with posts praising Bellingham.
That’s what football has become for a lot of people. They don’t necessarily talk about the player who actually played the best football; they talk about whoever is more popular, more hyped or gets the most attention.
It’s not about understanding the game anymore. It’s about repeating the names everyone else is talking about.
Olmo can dominate a game technically and tactically, and people will ignore it because he isn’t as popular as Bellingham.
Actually watch football instead of watching the hype.
🚨Luis Suárez on Atlético Madrid not letting Julián Álvarez join Barcelona
🗣️“Look, people will say I’m only talking because I know both clubs and I’ve lived this exact situation. And they’re right. I have.
When Barcelona decided they no longer wanted me, they didn’t hesitate. They didn’t sit around making speeches about or dragging it out. Koeman called, they told me I wasn’t in their plans, and they let me go. That was it. Club first. That’s how it works.
So I really don’t see the big fuss now if Julián Álvarez wants to leave Atlético. If he wants to go, let him go. Don’t make this more complicated than it already is.
A footballer’s career is short. Very short. You don’t get many years at the highest level. Let him go to the club he believes is best for him. He’s given Atlético goals, work rate, and respect for the shirt. That should count for something.
These situations are never clean. You can see when something is weighing on a player. Julián has never disrespected the club. Sit down like adults, talk honestly, and find a solution that doesn’t drag everyone through the mud.
Don’t let one messy moment erase what he’s already done. I’ve been on both sides of this. Barcelona didn’t think twice when it was my turn to walk.
Clubs protect themselves first. Players should be allowed to chase what they feel is right for their career too. That’s football. It’s not that deep.”
Av ren kuriositet, ser på Molde- Viking (som serieleder). Hvorfor er det så laber fotballinteresse i Molde? Er ikke folk på tribunen. #Eliteserien@tv2sport
Congratulations to Luis Enrique! Tonight PSG brought it home for his late daughter who passed at the age of nine after a battle with bone cancer.
This one's for Xana Martínez ❤️🙏🏽
It's April 2011. The Champions League, La Liga and Spanish Cup all to decide.
All between Mourinho's Real Madrid and Pep's Barcelona, with Cristiano and Messi at their best.
4 games in 18 days. Fights, meltdowns, iconic moments.
Some might say football peaked here.
