The UK’s latest anti-vape plan risks making the switch away from cigarettes harder, not easier.

Plain packaging, drab colours, flavour restrictions and hiding products from view reduces the appeal of regulated alternatives for adults who smoke, while doing little to tackle illegal supply.

The choice is not between regulation and no regulation. It is between effective regulation and a market operating outside the rules.

The government can protect young people through age verification, retailer licensing and enforcement against illegal sellers, while also preserving adult access to regulated smoke-free alternatives.

Prohibition removes lawful supply, not demand. It just changes who supplies the market.

Big news from the FDA. Historic news, actually!

On June 30, 2026, the agency authorized 20 nicotine pouch products to be marketed with a modified risk claim, meaning they can now officially state that using pouches instead of cigarettes puts you at lower risk of mouth cancer, heart disease, lung cancer, stroke, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis.
