Accepting a fellowship should not punish the trainee!
Yet @harvardmed changes the status of postdocs, from “salary” to “stipend” when a postdoc becomes a fellow, resulting in a net loss of ~$3k/yr in compensation due to:
The BRAINYAC program offers immersive summer research experiences for high school students in @columbia's neuroscience laboratories. Join us to celebrate the accomplishments of these young scientists! August 18, 2-4pm, register here:

Strongly agree with #1. This is huge, especially when you get a prestigious fellowship and get 'rewarded' by losing insurance for your family. Also, whenever postdocs advocate for themselves, "you're a temporary hire" always comes up, perpetuating the cycle. Stop this now.
I'm so honored to share the news that I was awarded an @EMBO postdoctoral fellowship to study the role of Human Specific Gene Duplications in shaping the human brain in the lab of @fpolleux at @ZuckermanBrain@Columbia Thankful for the support and ready to do some cool science!!
We are excited to announce the 112 awarded

Giorgio Parisi – awarded this year’s #NobelPrize in Physics – discovered hidden patterns in disordered complex materials. His discoveries are among the most important contributions to the theory of complex systems.
Hyperactivation of mTOR can cause cortical malformations & epilepsy; @MartiProOn &co show that these effects can be uncoupled, and that mTOR hyperactivity in a limited set of neurons induces hyperexcitability in non-targeted, healthy neurons #PLOSBiology https://t.co/azRJfVB98b
