David Attenborough standing next to the cast of a dinosaur femur (thigh bone) that belonged to a species of sauropod, Patagotitan mayorum. It measures 2.4 metres (almost 8 ft). The original fossil was discovered in southern Argentina alongside others belonging to several individuals. By examining ash deposits in rock layers around the fossils, scientists dated them to 101.6 million years old (Cretaceous Period).

The animal was thought to have been 37 metres (121 feet) long and weigh over 70 tonnes, but this was later reduced to 31 metres (101 feet) and 57 tonnes.
