@johnnysuperbock@batcountry1980@ronbryn@peterhook Is there anything less rock and roll than a rock and roll hall of fame?
Would say that it's exactly the kind of thing they are far too cool to have anything to do with anyway, but they did turn up for the British hall of fame thing apparently.
@batcountry1980 ...It's like they said This Is The Way forward with Fools Gold, and Oasis said, Nah you're alright. As other responders have said, sucks that they were cut off in their prime and they didn't make an album in this vein. But the light that burns the brightest, etc.
@batcountry1980 To be fair, although there is a groove to the debut LP that no Britpop bands could match, it's far more subtle. There is a retro 60s jangly guitar vibe that does connect the Smiths and Britpop, whereas Fools Gold is something else: unmistakable bold and new and fresh...
@batcountry1980 ...then as the 60s ended music, ironically, became more segregated. Funk then hip-hop were blacker, all about the beat. Rock dropped the Roll - Rock, Heavy Metal, Punk, Indie were all very white until baggy got funky. Then came grunge and britpop, and that was that.
@batcountry1980 Incredible thread, you really should write a book, I'd buy it! Baggy was the last hoorah for black music influencing rock. Even before rock and roll, there was a dialogue between jazz, Broadway & popular music. The 50s and 60s were a multi colored musical melting pot...

Beautiful little Wolf Spider on @DWTBrownsea Pardosa Sp. - apparently difficult to ID even with microscope! - possibly P. amentata ? (Black hairs on pedipalps a clue, but don't know if diagnostic?) @BritishSpiders @georgecmcgavin
@kunst_landschap This looks stunning, we love hosting our autumn and winter Lepelaar here in Dorset, when is it out, and where will we be able to watch it?
Many of these Black-tailed Godwits will have spent the winter in Portugal, France and Spain (with some from UK). Southern birds are using a cunning 'overtake' plan to get to iceland early.
