The Munich air disaster remains one of the darkest days in football history.

On February 6, 1958, British European Airways Flight 609, carrying Manchester United’s “Busby Babes” back from a European Cup tie in Belgrade, crashed on its third takeoff attempt at Munich-Riem Airport due to slush on the runway.

23 people lost their lives, including eight talented young United players (Geoff Bent, Roger Byrne, Eddie Colman, Mark Jones, David Pegg, Tommy Taylor, Liam Whelan, and Duncan Edwards, who died later from injuries), plus staff and journalists. Manager Matt Busby was critically injured but survived, as did future legends like Bobby Charlton.

Despite the tragedy, United rebuilt under Busby and went on to win the European Cup a decade later. Forever remembered. #MUFC #Munich58 #NeverForgotten
