We have search and screening technology, dedicated K9 teams, overt and covert officers, deployed in and around all venues and routes, CCTV monitoring and communication centers, a command centre at the venue etc. We have, in addition, specialist response teams at selected locations and patrollers in rapid reaction formations. Those wide ranges of security measures are not fixed and are constantly being renewed, to ensure they remain effective and appropriate.

@UgandaPrisons has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing security measures through a strategic partnership with @PoliceUg in canine security.

A team of senior officers from the Kampala Extra Region, led by Mr. Bryan Corr Mbaziira, Senior Superintendent of Prisons (OC-Upper Maximum Security Prison), embarked on a familiarization tour at Entebbe International Airport today, hosted by the @PoliceUg Canine Section.

The tour aimed to appreciate the importance of canine units in managing maximum security, particularly in the prison context.

The partnership between the two institutions has been instrumental in training personnel, capacity building, and joint operations.

During the tour, the team learnt from the expertise in deploying canines in various airport areas, including:

- Departure lounge
- Arrivals
- Baggage loading area
- Cargo

They saw firsthand how canines are effectively utilized in detecting and preventing security threats.

The officers were drawn from prisons like; Upper, Murchison Bay, Kampala Remand, Kigo, Luzira Women, Kitalya Mini Max, Canine Section and Safety and Security Unit. The Prisons canine section has proven effective in day-to-day prison operations, including detecting contraband, tracking escapees, conducting searches, patrols and guarding prison premises.

With the use of K-9 dogs,Old Kampala Police arrested Kamanya Muhammad , ssendagire Julius and Nasasira Mark for raping a 17-year-old juvenile.

The incident took place on 17th August 2024.

With the use of the K-9 unit, the @policeug in Rwampala was able to track down and apprehend Mukumuza Moses and Bindeeba Alex yesterday. These two stormed into a pub and took several items, including a radio, jewellery screen and beer.

According to Tororo District Police Commander Sadat Sabila, Three KK Security guards arrested with over 100 stolen iron sheets. The iron sheets were recovered after a sniffer dog led @PoliceUg to the home of one of the guards who was on duty on Friday night. Well done K-9 unit.

On August 1, 2024, a resident of Bulaga B, Sumbwe, in Wakiso Municipality reported the theft of two million shillings to Bulaga Police. With the invaluable assistance of the police's canine unit, officers traced the stolen money to a neighbor of the complainant, Nansiiti Olivia. A thorough search led to the recovery of a box containing 770,000 shillings, which had been cleverly concealed.

The police are urging the public to come forward and request similar assistance in cases of theft, as the canine unit's expertise proved instrumental in tracing and recovering the stolen funds in this instance. This successful operation demonstrates the effectiveness of the police's K9 unit in combating crime.

The Police K9 Unit is one of the key enabler in crime management.
Between April and June, the Unit performed 4288 trackings, while 4289 suspects were arrested with the help of the police K9.

Police sniffer dogs in Rwampara district and armed CID officers arrested Byamukama and his colleague Brown for stealing Ninsima's pig.
The incident took place at Kitwe Nyaribungu Cell in Kanoni Town Council.
