Testing my butterfly wings at https://t.co/JX0OGeqomb. Started with an 11-flap thread about the combination of an imminent climate collapse and the inability of national and international political structures to respond to it as the defining characteristic of the current decade
Supporting indigenous Sámi in the Northern Boreal forests.
We're proud to support members of the Muddusjärvi Reindeer Herders’ Cooperative (MPLK) in their landmark complaint to the United Nations Human Rights Committee – a pivotal case at the intersection of climate change and indigenous rights – as we advocate for the Sámi community's right to preserve their traditional way of life.
MPLK is the last reindeer herding community to use the endangered Inari Sámi language. Their way of life is under serious threat from environmental degradation and insufficient government support.
Our team, alongside esteemed colleagues Toby Fisher and Professor Martin Scheinin, is committed to ensuring that the Finnish Government upholds its obligations under international human rights law.
This case is not just about survival; it's about sustaining a rich cultural heritage for future generations.
As William Robinson, counsel in our London Litigation group, comments: “This case places vital emphasis on the extent of governments’ obligations to support and protect indigenous communities facing the twin threats of widescale environmental destruction and climate change. Our clients are asserting their right not just to survive, but to sustain and pass on a unique way of life rooted in indigenous knowledge, language, and culture. We are proud to work with the MPLK community as they seek justice through international human rights law.”
These efforts are part of our broader commitment to supporting local organizations across the northern boreal forests in their efforts of rewilding to renew biodiversity and allow local traditions to thrive in harmony with nature.

@elonmusk Thank you. Next, can you tell us how you pulled the decisive votes in all the swing states? Trump said you know those computers better than anyone else
An alarming development: what was a post-9/11 panic reaction by the EU adopting a wide and unprincipled definition of terrorism would 23 years later be pushed through by Council of Europe
Thanks to @ejiltalk for publishing my piece on the Council of Europe’s proposed new definition of terrorism, which would undermine human rights across 46 European countries

Having served as counsel, I merely point the reader to the remarkable integration into these Views of ICCPR and CERD case law, UNDRIP and FPIC, particularly CESCR breaking new ground in interpreting ICESCR articles 15, 1 and 2 and CRC on intergenerational transmission of culture
Yesterday two UN human rights treaty bodies (CRC and CESCR) issued their Views in three cases against Finland, concerning prospective mining projects on traditional reindeer herding lands of the indigenous Sámi people. Links at the end of the press release https://t.co/j4mPyjRQ0q
