President @realDonaldTrump has claimed, without any scientifically convincing evidence, that Tylenol is the cause of autism. This is outright offensive to people with autism in general. Many individuals with Asperger’s are highly gifted, and there is even evidence that great scientists and world changers in the Middle Ages had autism. We are able to make connections that neurotypical people often cannot. We have the ability to remain objective and analytical in a chaotic environment. Trump has no real understanding of what autism actually entails, nor is there any convincing or substantiated reason as to why it develops in some people—let alone that it could be “cured.” It is also a major insult to all caregivers who dedicate their lives with love and devotion to supporting people with more severe forms of autism.
My wish would be that the U.S. one day has a highly intelligent president with autism—a president who excels in justice, objectivity, and the capacity to unite through diplomatic skills.
