Happy to share our study on the critical role of the lipopeptide syringomycin in promoting Pseudomonas syringae virulence across land plants. Project led by Kris Grenz and @Khongsam_Chia, @JohnInnesCentre and collaborators @AlexaTyszka & @evojfwalker https://t.co/TCbEVkvzD0
Excitement on Day 3 of The Veldkos|Field food DNA project at @CenGenZA using Quast and Busco on their plant genome assembly under the guidance of @steuernb@MartinjVickers
Grade 11 learners from the Cape Winelands Education district were the first learners ever to sequence a plant genome in South Africa. The JIC Informatics team are now teaching them how to assemble this ONT generated sequence data here at CenGen.
Demis -- I think AlphaFold3 is really exciting. As Reviewer #3, I got great results from the server. I tried hard to get @Nature to urge you to release the code but was unsuccessful. I did not get it for re-review so I don't know if you responded. So why no code? @GoogleDeepMind
@rsmck Wow 104 days! I've got servers running for that kind of number but never a laptop. I have an M2 Air for work, but it's managed by out IT dept, so it forces updates which often restart my machine. Do you not update as often?
@dgonzales1990 I had this issue as a student at UCL. I kept getting emails like “gone home and left the XYZ machine on, can you turn it off when it’s finished b4 you leave for the weekend”. It freaked me out that if I didn’t forward the emails on, the building would catch fire or something!
@lauriewired I remember in ~2013 being forwarded an email advertising a "supercomputer" - going free to a good home ... it was an SGI Altix 3700 that had something like 80cores 40GB RAM across three racks. While at the time we easily had 2U servers with 32cores and 256GB RAM.
TWO post doc positions available in @SaskiaHogenhout 's lab @JohnInnesCentre - come and join the greatest team

1. We're thrilled to announce our paper on the evolution of plant NLR immune receptors has found a home at @ThePlantCell ! https://t.co/Ese3qkEiQR🎉 This work builds on our original preprint, which you can check out here:
Happy #Friday everyone! If you’re working as a #devops, #sysadmin a #coder, @ResearchSoftEng or the person everyone comes to see to solve their IT issues. There is still time to apply for our team @JohnInnesCentre. Applications close this Sunday https://t.co/ZVoIehO57E
@powerfulweak@sortedfood An American friend of mine introduced me to Peanut butter on toast, topped with cucumber. I have zero idea why it works, but I love it, and it makes me love cucumber more! :-)
