Novaya Gazeta, Russia's last independent newspaper, announced that it was closing due to Kremlin pressure.

Russia has built a new pro-war cinema canon since 2022 — state-funded films meant to explain the Ukraine war and “re-educate” liberals. They’re formulaic, heavily subsidized, and consistently flop. Why?

In Russia, owners of non-state data centers will be required to reserve 10% of their capacity to help keep Russia's IT infrastructure running, according to a decree signed by Putin today:

@mkhammer@grapetime67 💯. Plus the purse, if like me you carried it on your left shoulder. It does not get any better with age 😪, so good for you for noticing this early so you can treat it.
The ‘State-Civilization’ Versus the Civilized State. Russian statehood is undergoing a reverse evolution, rejecting the experience of human development dating back at least to the 13th century.

Andrew Perpetua and his team have counted 106,951 Russian soldiers killed in videos published over 797 days of the war.
That videos released publicly capture only 20% of Russian military deaths.
If his assumptions are correct, the total number of Russian soldiers killed over two years and two months could exceed half a million.
The full-scale war has now been going on for 1,712 days.
Mediazona's estimates also suggest that Russian military deaths have exceeded half a million, even though their calculations have so far only reached 2025.
As a reminder, Mediazona has already documented 282,993 Russian soldiers killed, identified by name.
It is reasonable to suggest that this may be the first sacrifice of human lives on such a scale in history.
Hundreds of thousands of soldiers killed, with the death toll approaching a million, in exchange for negligible military gains.
China’s Fifth Plenum decision is out.
Beijing wants the Party to have more influence in private tech firms.
“Strengthen Party-building efforts in platform companies, technology-innovation enterprises, and other such firms; establish a mechanism for dynamically adjusting the elevation of Party organizations within internet companies to higher administrative levels of management; and ensure that responsibilities for Party-building are fulfilled.”

What we have witnessed is one of the first instances of a new, horizontal politics peacefully filling an old, vertical structure. The students didn’t choose one politician over another; they stepped forward themselves. Serbia has had its cake and eaten it, too. And, at least for now, all the store windows remain intact.
