The police attack on students protesting at Kerala University headquarters is brutal and unjustified. Students, including female students, were seriously injured, with a female student even struck in the eye with a lathi. Female students were beaten without women police personnel present. They were exercising their democratic right to protest, which should have been addressed through dialogue, not force.

If the UDF Government seeks to silence dissent, it will be strongly resisted. This brutality reflects its intolerance towards protests against its Sangh Parivar subservience. The officers responsible must be immediately removed from duty, investigated and strictly punished. No government can silence democratic voices by beating students into submission. All democratic forces must unite to defend Keralam’s students’ democratic rights.
