It was wonderful to join the Maple Villa community for Long-Term Care Community Engagement Day and celebrate the people who make compassionate care possible in Burlington.
Thank you to the incredible staff, care providers, families and caregivers who bring professionalism, patience and kindness to this work every day.
As Burlington grows and our population ages, making sure residents can access quality care close to home is more important than ever. We’re looking forward to the opening of the new 256-bed Maple Villa on Palladium Way in January 2027, and to the opportunities it will create for residents and families in our community.
Wishing the entire Maple Villa team all the best as you prepare for this exciting next chapter. Thank you for everything you do for our community.
.@ONBigCityMayors are urging the province to launch a review of mandatory care as part of a push for compassionate, life‑saving intervention in the #MentalHealth and #addictions crisis – a call they say could prevent deaths. https://t.co/RKNikVAtVa @MariannMeedWard#LocalGov
Ontario’s Big City Mayors have launched the next phase of our Solve the Crisis campaign: Reaction to Recovery.
As Chair of @ONBigCityMayors, I was proud to help launch this campaign and bring our message directly to the Government of Ontario at the AMO Conference. We met with the Minister of Health to discuss the growing mental health, addictions and homelessness crisis, and I raised the issue directly during the Minister’s Forum.
Municipalities across Ontario have stepped up, but we’ve reached the limits of what we can do alone. We need a recovery-focused approach that expands access to treatment, supportive housing and rehabilitation, while providing the leadership and investment needed to address this crisis at the scale it demands.
This is about saving lives, supporting recovery and building healthier communities. It’s time to move Ontario from reaction to recovery.

@cityburlington Shout out to Burlington's Centennial Trail Multi-use Pathway. Resources like this allow the little guy and I to enjoy bike rides with a sense of safety, while igniting smiles along the way.
Just dropped!
I wouldn't be alive today without harm reduction, recovery, and housing security.
Grateful to be alive.
Grateful to be in recovery.
Grateful to be free.
@raghu_venugopal@guyfelicella I've been in recovery for 10 years now. I Was forced into treatment 4 times and every time relapsed immediately afterwards. The 5th time was my choice and I have been sober ever since. Harm reduction practices kept me alive until I was ready to make changes.

In Canada, my team and I have just introduced 2 Bills in the Senate:
Bill #S202(cancer warning labels on alcoholic products) just like we have for tobacco and cannabis products; and
Bill #S203(the prohibition of alcohol advertising in 🇨🇦) just like we have for tobacco and cannabis products.
Why do alcohol companies get a free pass from having to warn their own consumers and Canadian citizens that alcohol consumption causes 7 fatal known cancers? 🤔
Its a start.
Next comes a $6Billion dollar « alcohol deficit » Canada has, meaning it costs taxpayers more for the direct(but often not talked about) impacts/costs of alcohol to society(deaths, accidents, injuries, dui’s, legal costs, emergency visits, emergency calls, dependencies, depressions, suicides, domestic abuse cases, FASD, therapies, other physical health conditions, mental health issues/disorders just but to name a few.
Alcohol directly causes and/or severely contributes to all of the above. The negative health, legal and societal impacts of alcohol costs all Canadians more money than alcohol « revenues » it provides governments.

@TorontoPolice These comments are terrible. This is a human being who is missing and there are people concerned for their well-being, and all some people do is make ignorant insensitive comments.
@SickNotWeak@CAMHnews I wonder why we use the term "Autistic person" instead of a person living with Autism, since people are so much more than their diagnosis?
It's time for the Government of Ontario to solve the homelessness and addiction crisis in our cities.

This July 1, CMHA Durham joins many in reflecting on Canada’s past and future. For Indigenous peoples, this day is one of mourning. The impacts of systemic racism and colonialism continue to affect their mental health and well-being.

@JohnPaulDanko@MariannMeedWard@WestEndHBA@OntarioHBA Could it be beneficial to the cause to invite some members of the community who are facing or have faced barriers to housing to share their experiences and input (and one of those yummy looking meals) if they wish to? Just a thought.
@Gingernation001@MariannMeedWard@cityburlington Sure, pick on social workers. Like there's something wrong with acknowledging systemic prejudice and past mistakes in order to build a society where equal human rights are honoured. Anti-Oppressive Practice is now a foundation of law enforcement as well.
@PeelPolice@PRPRoadSafety It boggles my mind why ppl tint their car windows-pedestrians, cyclists & other motorists can't make eye contact with the driver behind the tint therefore creating an unnecessary safety hazard on the road.Sure, your car looks more badass without your ugly mug in the window but...
