I think that “Speech Sounds” is my favorite story we’ve read in this class so far. It’s such a compelling work of fiction that really helps put this idea into perspective. #xuengl205

@engl205 I really like this take on the text. I guess I'm not the biggest fan of turning two women so sexual since that seems to be a common theme among a lot of media, but I do like the idea that they are trying to show that they aren't just their disabilities.

This story was a very interesting read. The part that stood out most to me was the part about seeing women playing blind women and the fact that they never really show the true face of a blind woman. #xuengl205

@engl205 I think, because for rich families in this time period image was everything. In order to keep their status they had to keep a good image in the public eye. Though I don’t think it’s right.

They never take anything from houses that would be so obvious, only things they know the owners won’t miss. It’s the idea that there are things that someone would want to steal that someone else won’t even think about. #xuengl205

This movie was really interesting to me. I kept on trying to guess who the parasite was that the title was referring to and I think that the cool thing about this movie is it really could be anyone of them. #xuengl205

@BenWaybright25 I so agree. I think there’s a point where you can’t even imagine someone else not having to live paycheck to paycheck or struggling to eat, that when you see someone who does, they seem like the richest and most fortunate person on the planet to you.

In the article by Simpson the sentence “Middle class feels like the one percent when you’re stuck below the poverty line” really stuck out to me. It’s definitely a huge comment on the privilege and disparity in this country. #xuengl205

When we heard about Michaels mom telling him he should like shopping because he’s gay and the white boys assuming he was a drug dealer, it made me think about how having multiple identities can lead to so much stereotyping. #xuengl205

@Maria70993484 Yea and the idea that he didn’t feel black enough or greek enough or queer enough to be a part of those groups is something a lot of people can relate to. Just the idea of feeling like you’re not enough of anything to belong anywhere.
