@ChristianityOn My autistic daughter with high support needs and ID did her first confession with a picture schedule! And she was one of her peers with receiving first communion and confirmation.
@epballou It tends to get missed, for sure. I ask about it during my visits and point families toward resources. Autistic kids who love water but don’t know how to swim make me nervous. Often the local YMCA or aquatics club hase a grant to teach kids with disabilities.
@emzanotti The length is great though. Up until recently it was hard to find skirts and dresses that fell to mid calf or below. And I am not necessarily in the modesty camp, but I am in the comfort and utility camp.
@ChristianityOn@MitchUbishi4554 Things are changing slowly, and heading in the right direction. Currently the norm is for 2 year olds to get 40h/wk of ABA and for school aged children to have 4+ hours of therapies after a full day of school.
@ChristianityOn@MitchUbishi4554 In developmental pediatrics we are still rocking like it’s 2010 though. Neurodiversity framing has not penetrated the field at all, and very few fellowship trained pediatricians give any evidence of any exposure to disability rights concerns.
Look, I also loathe "autism is a superpower!" rhetoric, but parents... this stuff is by and large not coming from the neurodiversity movement.
It's coming from parents who don't know how to accept their kids as disabled or talk to them about disability...
@amywelborn2 As a Catholic healthcare worker, I am thankful for churches that followed pandemic precautions. I did not receive the Eucharist for over a year, and considered changing parishes due to the behavior of my parish priests.
@Scienceofsport@AlastairMcA30 As a former collegiate track and field athlete (shot put and discus) I’m grateful to the IOC for setting clear boundaries around the female category. But, do we have clearly documented data that MOST women support SRY screening? (I hope we do.)
