When the history of the current media era is written, there should be a major chapter about Elisabeth Bumiller (@BumillerNYT). She has led the @nytimes Washington Bureau tirelessly for nearly a decade, a modern record, including one of the most ... (1) https://t.co/xBmWYKKntu
One former F&M trustee, a distinguished law prof., said he’s never seen an instance where the gov't attempted to say it had been defamed.
“I suppose it’s an effort to chill the college’s own actions, in trying to get its students registered. I can't think of another reason.”

There is no logic that isn't damning as to why the Washington Post and LA Times feel they can endorse in every local, state and federal election other than a presidential race.
My mom just told me she cancelled her subscription to The Washington Post. She reads every one of my stories. It was a heartbreaking call.
I understand why she did it, but I asked her to reconsider. To anyone who has cancelled or is thinking about cancelling, here’s what I said:
Dear readers, sources, leaders and friends who have reached out in droves today asking me to quit the @washingtonpost :
1/ I too worry about the timing and odd explanation for The Post's change in endorsement policy.
2/ My fear is that this signals a tip-toeing deference to a candidate. And that spells trouble what I care deeply about: revelatory reporting without fear or favor, no matter who is upset by the truth we reveal.

An Elon Musk-funded PAC is microtargeting Muslim people in Michigan and Jewish people in Pennsylvania with opposite messaging about Kamala Harris using ZIP code targeting, according to data I pulled from Snapchat. Few things from this investigation:

Many a reporter has walked the halls of PA’s Capitol holding public servants to account. Yours truly included! Few, if any, did it better or worked harder than @JanMurphy. All of us owe her a debt of gratitude as she leaves @PennLive. Jan was tough but always fair - best wishes!!
Goodbye NYC:
I’ve taken a voluntary layoff from @WNYC/@Gothamist, with severance (❤️ you @NYPR_Union). It’s been a privilege to talk on the radio for 11 years: I filed ~2,000 stories, guest-hosted 5 shows, exposed abuse in ICE & at Rikers, helped win a Peabody for #Bridgegate 1/3
Pro: JD Vance actually takes questions at his rallies.
Con: The format is in front of the entire rally as the rally-goers boo every journalist. Here @ChasThompson1 tries to get his out.
Why we need professional journalists: @JDVance rep tells @wsj about Anna Kilgore, a Springfield OH woman whose cat went missing in August, so @Kris_Maher drives to her house. She found the cat in her basement and apologized to her Haitian neighbors.
When I was growing up, Phil Donahue was my 4 pm daily appointment with a world of ideas, issues and nuance I couldn’t find anywhere else on TV.
Today’s Daily is my tribute to Donahue, the man and the show.

A group of powerful private lawyers connected to former MS Gov. Haley Barbour made millions in attorneys fees going after one of the largest insurance companies in the US — @Centene. Barbour is also a lobbyist for Centene, my @nytimes investigation found: https://t.co/VNicfBUZvj
Wayne LaPierre’s lawyer described him as “the face and voice” of the N.R.A. “He had given the role everything he had, but he had only been playing a character,” @mikespiesnyc writes. A recent trial “required him to tell the truth, leaving him unmasked.” https://t.co/D3hEIPQPHf
