The consequences of this setback in Nigeria are enormous if not arrested on time. Two such consequences will be the inability of the two labs to detect imported wild Polio virus on time and the importation of the same to already polio-free countries.

am appealing to the Lawmakers in Nigeria to heed my plea for speedy intervention. Undue delay in allowing the two Polio labs in Nigeria to fulfill their mandate can result in the resurgence of wild poliovirus or its mutated forms that equally cause paralysis.

The Action that was taken so far: I appealed to the Director General of NAFDAC for intervention on these issues, but yet no response so far. I spoke with some Directors and staff of NAFDAC but they turned deaf ears to all my pleas. To them, I am of no consequence.

Also, it takes two weeks after payment for inspection and analysis (an analysis that is never performed even after payment for it). Therefore, the lab is constrained from fulfilling the 14 days indicator of releasing the results after sample reception.

1. NAFDAC is hindering the Polio Labs in Nigeria from fulfilling its mandate of the timely release of valid and correct Virological information that guides and directs Immunization activities in Nigeria by confiscating the supplies if the charged fees are not paid on time.

On 9th August 2023, NAFDAC compelled WHO to pay for the inspection and analysis of plastic wares. Due to a three-day delay in the payment (N172.500), NAFDAC compelled WHO to pay a penalty fee of N 843, 750 which was tagged ‘ Admin, charge’ on the receipt

Nigerian Law permits only the Med Lab. Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) to inspect and analyze all diagnostics ( In vitro diagnostics (IVDs)). On 27th July 2023, the WHO Abuja logistics team informed the laboratory to expect inspection and analysis of reagents by NAFDAC

In recent times NAFDAC is frustrating Polio Eradication Program (PEP) in Nigeria in three ways.
