For generations, Morans have held an important place in Maasai society, shaping traditions, influencing decisions, and guiding the next generation.
Today, that influence is being harnessed to protect girls and champion a future free from #FGM and child marriage.
Along the Kenya–Tanzania border, the Mergoliki, the newest Moran age group comprising young men aged 15–24 from Inkoroin, Esosian, Ebolioi, and Mawe Tete, is choosing to redefine what leadership looks like.
Through the Future4Binti programme, more than 3,000 Moran champions are committing to use their influence to identify, report, and refer girls at risk, while leading peer-to-peer conversations with fellow young men on protecting girls' rights and ending harmful practices.
Ending FGM and child marriage cannot be the responsibility of women and girls alone. It requires fathers, brothers, elders, and young men to become allies in challenging harmful social norms and building safer communities.
Every girl deserves to grow up safe, empowered, and free to choose her own future, and when respected cultural leaders become champions for girls' rights, transformation is not imposed from the outside; it is owned from within.
