Discount retailers have cut the price of standard butter from €1.39 to €1.29, after it hit a record high of €2.39 last year. ◉ The reader first visits the catalog to retrieve the table's current metadata file location.

◉ After fetching the metadata file, it collects the table’s schema and checks partition schemes to understand the data organization.

◉ The reader retrieves the desired snapshot, usually the current one. For time-travel queries, it selects an older snapshot for time-travel queries by specifying a timestamp or snapshot ID.

◉ The manifest list associated with the selected snapshot is located.

◉ The reader then scans the manifest list to find the location of each manifest file and gathers partition bounds for filtering.

◉ Partition pruning is applied to discard unnecessary manifest files using these bounds.

◉ Each needed manifest file is opened, and the reader extracts the data file information, applying further pruning based on partition bounds.

◉ After identifying the required data files, the reader reads each file using the paths from the manifest file.

◉ Partition pruning happens at two levels: first, to limit manifest files and then to limit the data files.

◉ When reading Parquet data, additional query filters and column selection are applied to read only the necessary row groups and avoid scanning the entire file.

◉ The final result is returned to the client.
