According to the Polish military, an F-16 was scrambled overnight to intercept an unidentified object, which soon disappeared from radar. Later, a huge crater about 10 metres in diameter was discovered in the Lublin Voivodeship, Wiadomości reports.

Residents of the nearby villages of Tarnawa-Kolonia and Tokary told local media they heard an extremely loud explosion.

"We've never heard anything like it. The windows nearly blew out," one resident said.
