Folarin Balogun on his controversial red card against Bosnia, questioning the referee and VAR:
🗣️ “I cannot accept that decision. I've watched the replay over and over, and I know in my heart there was never any intention to hurt anyone. It was a football action, nothing more. To send me off for that is one of the harshest decisions I've experienced in my career.”
“What's frustrating isn't just the red card it's the inconsistency. Week after week, challenge after challenge, we've all seen similar incidents judged differently. Sometimes VAR says it's football, sometimes it becomes a straight red. How are players supposed to understand the rules when the standard changes every game?”
“The referee had one look. VAR had every angle, slow motion, every replay imaginable, and they still chose the harshest possible outcome. That's the part I cannot understand. Technology was introduced to remove obvious mistakes, not to create even bigger controversies.”
“This decision didn't just punish me. It punished my teammates, my coaches, every supporter wearing a USA shirt and everyone who travelled to support us. One whistle changed an entire World Cup night, and that's something impossible to forget.”
“If football wants players and fans to respect VAR, then VAR has to start respecting football. Consistency isn't optional it's the foundation of fairness. Right now, too many careers, tournaments and dreams are being decided by officials instead of the football itself.”
“I'll accept responsibility when I'm wrong. But I will never stay silent when I believe the game has been let down. Players deserve clarity, supporters deserve honesty, and this tournament deserves officiating that applies the same standard to everyone not different standards depending on the badge you wear.”
@chateautaee@StephenChaconas@RotheSoren I ment challenge. My bad. It wasn't a tackle. And youre not looking at the entire play. You are looking at the end and raise your white flag. He got hit by the Bosnia player as he was stepping and caused him to turn. So instead of being another dumbass maybe you should stop
Balogun's red card is a prime example of why studs to the leg/ankle/foot should not be an immediate sending off. The context of the play matters. Now contrast that play to Dzeko's clotheslining of Adams in the first half.
@chateautaee@StephenChaconas@RotheSoren I said if you wanted to say yellow card, I could see that. Not a red card you dumbass. Clearly your She/her also means youre blind/dumb
"VAR made their recommendation to the referee based on slow-motion and still replays, which is not aligned with VAR protocols."
@andydaviesref believes VAR made the incorrect decision on Folarin Balogun's red card.

🚨🇺🇸 Clint Dempsey Defends Balogun: “That’s a Yellow at Most, Not a Red”
“I’ve watched the replay from every clear angle, and I still don’t see a straight red card. It’s a committed challenge, but I don’t think there’s enough there to send a player off in a World Cup knockout match. Football is a physical game, and not every strong tackle has to end with someone walking down the tunnel.
“VAR is meant to correct clear and obvious mistakes, not magnify every incident until it looks worse than it really is. For me, the referee had the right feel for it on the pitch, and the replay didn’t provide anything convincing enough to overturn that.
“A decision like this completely changes the rhythm of the game. Instead of talking about the football, we’re talking about the officials. I believe the United States have been punished too severely, and I don’t think Folarin Balogun did enough to deserve a straight red. In a match of this magnitude, you’ve got to be absolutely certain before making a decision that could define the outcome.”

@chateautaee@StephenChaconas@RotheSoren Go watch it again. He was literally stepping around him when the Bosnia stepped in front. Red cards are ment for clear intent or dangerous play. He did neither. The was stepping. Not a dangerous play. The result or could've is irrelevant. If you wanna say its a poor tackle, sure
