@MatCoRE_NCL
Materials, Concepts and Reaction Engineering Group in @EngineeringNCL @UniofNewcastle. Chemical looping, membranes and catalysis (for H2, CO2, CH4, NH3 etc).
(1/3) We’re thrilled to announce that our project, “Engineering Chemical Reactor Technologies for a Low-Carbon Energy Future”, had been shortlisted as a finalist for the 2025 IChemE Global Awards in the Research Project Award category!
(3/3) – showing exciting potential for efficient syngas production for sustainable e-fuels and low-carbon hydrogen at industrial scale. We’re honoured to be recognised alongside other outstanding finalists driving innovation in clean energy and global net-zero transition.
Dr Mutch of @MatCoRE_NCL@EngineeringNCL has made it to the final round of the IACC-@SurfaceMSystems Carbon Capture Award for Exceptional Research! Check out all the finalists in the public vote here: https://t.co/FmMesaEXIU
Congratulations to Dr Greg Mutch for receiving the Carbon Capture Future Leader Award @ElsevierConnect@IChemE@CCSTJournal. It recognises the many successes of our team over recent years.
The other in @NatChemEng about using neutron diffraction to track the change of the material under working conditions in real time. https://t.co/no73mUiZK4
Third time is the charm!
Our final year PhD student, Dan Telford, could finally do his final experiments with neutron diffraction at @isisneutronmuon, where he used the reactor he designed and built!
Thanks to all the members of team involved for the effort!!
Dan's work with @isisneutronmuon and @DurhamChemistry has been published recently in two papers: one in @ChemMater focusing on understanding the structure of the oxygen carrier material https://t.co/cDaf5eeTrE
Can we boost CO2 capture performance on hybrid molten salt-ceramic membranes even further? Studies to date focus on the molten phase alone. Find out how careful engineering of grain boundary interfaces in the ceramic phase can add a new level of functionality in our new article!
🚨 New paper alert 🚨
Published at the end of last week in @SepPurifTech, molten-carbonate membranes for #CO2 capture with freeze-cast ceramic supports!
With gratitude to collaborators @ITQ_UPVCSIC and funders @EPSRC, @ERC_Research, and @RAEngNews.

We're very proud to share that two of our colleagues have received prestigious @IChemE awards! Professor Ian Metcalfe has been awarded the Sharma Medal and Dr Greg Mutch has received this year’s Warner Medal. Congratulations on this fantastic achievement

The article identifies ideal material thermodynamics for the reaction, and puts a new spin on heat and mass transfer analogy. The paper is freely available from the publisher. https://t.co/TEA7bPxdFb
We have recently published some modelling work on chemical looping/hydrogen production using non-stoichiometric oxides with @RSC_ReactionEng as part of their Emerging Investigator Series. https://t.co/qzNGoL4sTb
