New machine learning paper on the use of crowdsourced observations and high-resolution land cover to downscale and bias correct kilometre-scale operational air temperature forecasts to hectometre scale in urban areas. https://t.co/VfC7Mhjj2O
This week our refreshed site https://t.co/XuAUOFrEyd went live!
Greatly expanded locations list, new clickable map, and more features to come in coming months. Check it out, feedback welcome.
With @jimjam_slam & @stefancontracto.
Also, pleased to highlight two international additions by colleagues:
- Spain: https://t.co/gjbu3saTyS by @DanielArgueso
- Germany: https://t.co/cuxdyc2TRO by @The3ndlessriver
@stefancontracto @jimjam_slam Most of our updates are on the backend, enabling us to scale to many sites. User feedback on front-end changes, and feature requests, very welcome: https://t.co/XuAUOFrEyd
As a comparison, the old site is at https://t.co/n1JeiKXo39
Piggy backing on the #AMOS2024 conference, I wanted to announce that https://t.co/xOPPAeZjqc has just had a major refresh, with all new look and many stations all across Australia. Your one stop shop for real time climate outlook. @AMOSupdates
PhD Student Marzie Naserikia and coauthors recently published a paper in @SciTotEnv on the role of urban form and seasonality in land surface and air temperature dynamics.
Check out the graphical abstract, plus the thread for key findings and links.
Congrats to all involved!
@NeginNazarian We are lucky in Australia that energy companies must make their substation data publicly available, not the case for most places. Minute-by-minute temperature data from Bureau of Meteorology.
Exploring electricity demand vs temperature at suburb level over 24hrs: on the left a classic "V" response in a suburb with large residential %, little weekend difference. On right large industrial %, no V, large weekend difference. In middle, large commercial %, mixed response.
After a very warm overnight minimum in Sydney (20.5 C) average temp for today is already in the top 98th % for this time of year, and its not yet 9am.
