@SchillerWalther@ProfStrachan@BBCWorld So rather than look at empirically grounded probalistic forecasts which have been shown to provide better predictions of costs declines than experts (https://t.co/9RDclSm0ev), you would instead offer your opinion?
@SchillerWalther@ProfStrachan@BBCWorld I think you might need to read the manuscript more closely Walther. The model does include a conservative estimate of intermitency costs in that it builds far more storage than would be required. A system with more transmission and less storage would likely be even cheaper.
Want to stop climate change and save trillions?
Our research from Oxford's @INETOxford uses empirically grounded technological forecasting to show that a fast transition to an energy system based on renewables and storage will save trillions of dollars https://t.co/1kZzOUYGAz
Want to solve climates change and save trillions? Well, it turns out investing in green energy tech like solar, wind, batteries and electrolysers for hydrogen can not only decarbonise energy but will save trillions in energy system costs.
Authors Myles Allen @Haszeldine@StuartAJenkins@EliMLarson & @mat_ives write that the Carbon Takeback Obligation would require fossil fuel extractors & importers to dispose safely & permanently of a rising fraction of their CO2, incl by the products they sell, rising to 100%.
Simple fact: renewable energy employs more people in Germany than coal. Let's remember that when we talk about the energy transition. #Energiewende

'Unicorn' technologies are those that can deliver a reduction of at least a billion tonnes of CO2 a year.

Here's the coronavirus data, overlayed with the dates offset by the amounts shown. One of these countries is not like the rest. Everyone else will be Italy in 9-14 days time.
Thanks @PaulEDawson for organizing this great discussion. Please go to https://t.co/u1uIF7dq8f if you have a great idea for a SIP for a chance to win €1,000
Thank you to Dr Matthew Ives and the team at the Oxford Martin School for making this Twitter chat a great success.

@PaulEDawson I believe the republican governor of Texas lobbied Trump to not leave the Paris agreement because Texas renewables was growing so rapidly in the state
@KayaAxelsson@PaulEDawson My cousins are farmers in Aus and I have been telling them for years the greens are your friends. They want to reduce your two biggest risks - energy costs (renewables) and stoping climate change (reduce droughts)
For the next 40 minutes I’m live with top Oxford University Researchers to talk SIP's

Q3. What do SIPs mean for the "average Joe/Joanne"? Is there a way to get involved? How will Joe/Joanne be affected by SIPs?
For the next 60 minutes I’m live with top Oxford University Researchers to talk about Sensitive Intervention Points (SIP’s)

Q1. What are the most important SIPs you have identified and how could they be triggered?

Q2. Are SIPs bottom-up or top-down? Do we need to rely on our politicians or business leaders to make things happen or can people make things happen?
Imagine if we could intervene in the social economic system to bring about rapid, massive decarbonization.
This Friday at 4pm GMT I will be hosting a Oxford University for a chat on Sensitive Intervention Points, join us with your ideas.

Why is it, that out of all the Sciences (eg, Histology, Aeronautics, Cosmology, etc), the only Science subjected to massive and very well funded Denialist Disinformation is Climatology? “Qui Bono” = “Who Benefits” may be relevant?
