The Renault Alpine GTA (known simply as the Renault GTA in the UK) is a rear-engined, rear-wheel-drive sports coupé produced by the French manufacturer Alpine (a subsidiary of Renault) between 1984 and 1991. It served as a more sophisticated, modern successor to the Alpine A310.
The GTA was notable for its lightweight construction, utilizing a steel backbone chassis with bonded glass-fibre and polyester plastic body panels. It featured advanced aerodynamics, with the naturally aspirated version achieving an exceptionally low drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.28.
The car was powered by the legendary PRV (Peugeot-Renault-Volvo) V6 engine.
Two primary versions were offered
V6 GT (Naturally Aspirated): Featured a 2.8L (2849 cc) engine producing 160 hp.
V6 Turbo: Featured a 2.5L (2458 cc) turbocharged engine, which became the more popular and higher-performing model, outputting 200 hp and capable of a 0–60 mph time of approximately 6.3 seconds.
It was designed to compete with the likes of the Porsche 944 and Lotus Esprit. In the UK, it was marketed as the "Renault GTA" because the "Alpine" name was already trademarked by the Sunbeam Alpine.
Despite being praised for its handling, performance, and striking 1980s design, it was produced in relatively small numbers. It was eventually replaced by the Alpine A610 in 1991.
This is the V6 version so not as popular as the Turbo but still a fantastic car.
