In the guest lecture we discussed self efficacy. Self efficacy is the belief that you are able to successfully perform a behavior to achieve the desired effect. What areas of your life do you show self efficacy? I have self efficacy in
waterskiing and water safety. #UWJ201 #301
@alinapietr@EddieEngelman I definitely agree. Case studies can be very beneficial however very expensive. A lot of people really like to see the information and data supporting the product and the efficiency of the product. Case studies show real information and can persuade people to buy #UWJ201 #301
@juliapeterson08 There have been many miscommunications due to false information being spread on social media. For example, myths about the vaccination and why you should not get vaccinated. Prevention can be very hard especially because people become upset when posts are deleted. #UWJ201 #301
@ellese_martin Yes I definitely agree. Social media persuasion especially causes me to search and show interest for different products. If I see someone wearing something cute or that I like I always find myself looking into the site more. Then I go on to purchase the item. #UWJ201 #301
@jcharney12 I agree. Using both the peripheral and central can lead to a more efficient result in the persuasion. The goal is to make the consumer interested. Both routes can allow for the interest of consumers to be drawn in by providing different pieces of attractive information. #UWJ201
In lecture today we discussed persuasion. Do you think you are influenced by the advertisements on television or social media? How do your advertisements change based on what you search on your phone or computer? #UWJ201 #301
@kaelynguyen Ensuring the opinions do not block actual news can be hard however monitoring the information spread on social media can be a start. Secondly, finding ways to limit the amount of opinion articles and increase the number of factual articles/broadcasts. #UWJ201 #301
@marcjamesfinel I am curious about the trusting media too. I think fully trusting the news media is impossible because there are so many people who post about news anonymously and have no actual sources to support the claims. The news frames events depending on the viewers beliefs. #UWJ201 #301
On Wednesday we discussed who and what gets attention in the media. Was anyone else surprised by some of the rankings? I expected the democratic/republican parties to be ranked higher along with US resolution because they appear to be constant in social media. #UWJ201 #301
A lot of media comes from large companies like Disney who own many smaller companies. Do you find yourself getting your media from a variety of these umbrella companies or sticking to one and using the media sources owned by that specific company? Are there dangers? #UWJ201 #301
@BrookeP303 I found this to be very interesting. Growing up I never realized many smaller companies could be owned by an umbrella company. Seeing the graphs and all of the connections was amazing. I had no idea how few umbrella companies like Disney own all of our media sources #UWJ201 #301
@ohare4jack Yes, company’s like Amazon and Google would add to the bias found in media. It is really hard for companies to be unbiased since they want to have a targeted audience. Google and Amazon can also become a censor for information which leads to bias in media #UWJ201 #301
In discussion we talked about how fake news can spread very quickly. We also discussed whose fault it is for spreading fake news. Do you think as a viewer, we contribute to the spread of fake news and the news journalists report on to get more clicks? #UWJ201 #301
Reading the article, “No one should be surprised” was really not surprising. Is there a way to make journalism more diverse between men and women? How can we support women in media? Should we as the readers/viewers be trying to help? #UWJ201 #301
After reading the article 15 stories, I was pleasantly surprised as to how many I either have heard about or read. Did anyone else find the array of stories interesting? Do you think the stories should continue to be shared due to their history? #UWJ201 #301
@ClaireBiegs I think it prepares us, but also acts as a barrier. There needs to be a balance between social norms and societal change. Social norms should not be the reason our society is divided, therefore, finding a middle ground in socialization in journalism is important. #UWJ201 #301
@LogaLindsey It may be feasible however I think a lot of arguments would cause anger amongst people rather than a productive debate. People like to hear what they believe and have their beliefs confirmed. I think that’s mostly why media is biased to one side rather in the middle. #UWJ201 #301
@erinpease3 I believe hearing both sides is very important along with discussing with a variety of people. Only hearing one side causes us to become more polar to one side and start to hate the other opinion. Diversifying our circle can lead to more unification. #UWJ201 #301
The reading from this week on protests made me realize how hard it can be to find news that isn’t framed. Framing occurs a lot in media especially on political topics which causes a greater political divide. How can we be more open to learning about the event? #UWJ201 #301
