@heymrsbond Oh, this! it was a full year of instructional time over 6th-12th back in the "late 1900s" as the kids say - I calculated it at the time while waiting for one stupid pretest to end - and it's only gotten worse.
@StudyMaths Closest alignment to curriculum, is my guess. I like B and I would happily give it to my students but it wouldn't directly advance any of the course goals I'm supposed to achieve, and I don't have time. So with the phrasing "most likely", B is at the bottom of my list.
@heymrsbond Nah, elder millennial. Look, I know people who have PJ pants that are only for day wear, as a fashion thing. As long as you're clean enough to not be offensive at normal personal distance and not showing bits I shouldn't be seeing, who cares?
@EmathsUK@mathsjem The sequencing in old books really is top tier. I have a few inherited from my grandfather that I pull exercises from all the time - the order is so much more sensible than modern texts, even when the problems are the same.
@MrsSheehanMath For class on-the-fly "let's check the graph" and for teaching graph transformations, desmos hands down. I'd go to it 100% but for testing (our own and standardized) students need a stand-alone, so we use TIs.
@RyanMath6284 @Mathowitz Nah, Calc is just end behavior, slopes, and area in funny clothes. I teach an accelerated precalc that ends with the first 2-3 units of AP Calc, and we're always calling back to earlier stuff in disguise.
@Mathgarden It's interesting; when I read it, it struck me as adaptable. A good set of tools, from which you could take all or some and use with whatever lesson. That's... not how ppl are treating it.
@MathByTheMt F1 through 4, if you press alpha+y=, etc, are shortcuts to a lot of the common functions. My students prefer em over the full menus for fractions and matrices.
@MathByTheMt What level? Because I might include logs/exponentials, more trig, matrices. For basic use, I usually also show the F-shortcuts (assuming TI) using alpha and the graphing row.
@mathillustrated Oh, so many quibbles w/that classification. Asking students to present their thinking seems like the short definition of student-focused. Also I don't see differentiation as belonging to either group, yet it's listed as student.
@mathillustrated@ddmeyer Have you seen the new ai tutoring Khan has? We watched a demo at our last PD and all I could think was how short the wait time/fast the intervention was. Horrid.
@mathillustrated The focus on the whiteboards, of all things, puzzles me. The most conservative teacher I ever knew spent his whole career trying to get more blackboards in the room. The dream was having every S up at a board every day. (They would've been doing repetitive practice, but still)
@MrKitMath Would definitely like to step away from needing to go to both splitting (tho helpful building towards binomials); go to more mental math - personally I'd do 34*10+30*4+4*4 there; but it would vary by the number(s) in question.
