John Prescott was a politician both behind and ahead of his time. Considered too bluff and old Labour to reach to the very top in the 90s, today his authenticity and class credentials would have been perfect to fight Farage and populism. Labour needs more like him.

Tesco have written to Rachel Reeves to say they can’t cover the increase in costs caused by NIC increases. Their own figures show an increased pre tax cost of £0.25bn a year.
It is hard to see how the shareholders of a company with a pre-tax profit of £2.9bn can afford that.
