@awscloud just published the quiet part out loud in South Africa; their R365 million “Equity Equivalent Investment Program” is open to 100% Black-owned ICT businesses only.

One White shareholder and you are disqualified. Rumor? No. That is the eligibility form.

They call this “fostering diversity and inclusion.” In the same breath they define “Black” as Africans, Coloreds and Indians and then slam the door on anyone with a White name on the share register. Diversity, apparently, now means racial exclusion with a corporate logo on it.

A US company that spent years lecturing America about inclusion is perfectly happy to run a color bar in South Africa because that is how you buy B-BBEE points and keep the government sweet.

They would never dare run the same programme in Seattle. They know exactly what it is. They just calculated that White South Africans are the cheapest group to throw under the bus.

This is not "redress." This is a global corporation helping the ANC finish the job of locking White entrepreneurs out of the digital economy they helped build, then calling the result “empowerment.” R365 million to tell White founders their skin is the problem.

If this is inclusion, then the word no longer means anything. It means, "stay out unless you have the approved ancestry." Amazon just put it in writing.

The News24 article about rape kits misses the central issue.

No one disputes that SAPS may have thousands of rape kits somewhere within its national inventory (even though we checked national supply chain and they hardly had any). That was never the concern.

The real question is this:

When a rape survivor walks into an FCS Unit at 2 a.m., is a rape kit immediately available at that unit so that evidence can be collected without delay?

That is the standard against which the system should be judged.

On 14 and 15 May this year (amongst more than 15 other unannounced visits), we conducted oversight visits to specialised Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Units in the Western Cape. We did not rely on reports or spreadsheets. We visited the units, inspected facilities and engaged directly with investigators.

At Nyanga FCS we uncovered that rape kits were, well, NON-EXISTENT, they had ZERO!

Members indicated that kits had to be sourced elsewhere when urgently required, the same at Mitchells Plain FCS at that stage. That should never happen at a specialised sexual offences unit.

The same visit exposed an equally serious operational crisis. Only 3 of the unit’s 12 vehicles were operational. Detectives responsible for investigating rape and child abuse cases were expected to serve one of the country’s busiest areas with just 25% vehicle availability.

At Worcester FCS we found investigators responsible for ten police stations spread across vast rural areas, including Laingsburg, requiring extensive travel while operating with limited resources.

Taken together, these findings paint a picture of specialised units under enormous pressure. The issue extends far beyond procurement. It is about whether the frontline system is capable of delivering justice to victims when every minute counts.

The responses quoted in the News24 article do not actually refute what we found during oversight. They focus on procurement processes and national stock figures. They do not answer the practical question of whether rape kits were immediately available where investigators and victims needed them.

A rape kit sitting in a provincial warehouse or another police facility is of little value if investigators first have to locate and fetch it while a traumatised survivor waits.

Equally concerning is that none of us have received these responses directly, despite a formal legal letter having been addressed to the Minister. It is disappointing that detailed responses appear in the media before they are provided to the Member of Parliament who conducted the oversight.

If SAPS believes our findings are incorrect, the answer is simple.

Publish the stock registers.

Publish the records showing where rape kits were physically stored at each FCS Unit on the dates of our oversight visits.

Publish replenishment records.

Publish how often members had to obtain kits from other facilities.

Publish the contingency procedures when kits were unavailable on site.

That evidence would resolve this matter quickly.

South Africans are not interested in how many rape kits exist somewhere in the national supply chain.

They want to know that when a woman or child reports one of the most traumatic crimes imaginable, the rape kit is there, the trained investigator is there, the vehicle is available, and the investigation begins immediately.

That is the standard victims deserve.

PS: the national answer with regards to rape kits does not address provincial problems. Provincial supply chain is the responsible entity to ensure adequate distribution to specialised units, not some national register.

Just saw The Odyssey. Despite what you may have heard, literally all of the criticisms by conservatives were entirely correct. The movie is just as woke as you fear, if not more so. The DEI casting is atrocious. Completely takes you out of the story right from the beginning. But even worse than that is Nolan’s decision to turn Odysseus into an anachronistic whiney, solemn shell of a man plagued by “trauma” and guilt. It’s impossible to overlook these flaws because the film itself is not terribly entertaining or well constructed. For the most part it is disjointed, dull, self-serious, disenchanted, somehow feeling both verbose and overly rushed at the same time. The dialogue is some of the worst I’ve ever heard in a “critically acclaimed” film. “On the nose” and “clunky” are descriptions that can’t even begin to describe this script. At no point in the story does Nolan ever transport the audience to the ancient world. You never feel like you’re 3,000 years in the past. You feel like you’re watching modern Americans put on a pageant, because you are. Nobody would be calling this thing a masterpiece if it was made by a director not named Christopher Nolan.
