In Tanzania, powerful winds and intense rainfall from the tropical storm Hidaya affected numerous areas, including Lindi, Mtwara, Pwani, and Dar es Salaam.
Since the beginning of April, heavy rains in various part of the country led to flooding and landslides affecting over 200,000 people and leaving more than 85,000 displaced.
Volunteers from Tanzania Red Cross @trcs1962, working alongside local authorities, have been helping people affected by the floods since the beginning. However, more support is needed.
In the aftermath of tropical storm #Hidaya, @trcs1962 is responding, helping evacuate families whose homes have been flooded.
Since the start of the floods in April, more than 200,000 people have been affected, and over 85,000 people homeless.
Dire support is needed.
Strong winds and heavy rainfall caused by #CycloneHidaya have been experienced in Lindi, Mtwara, Pwani and Dar es Salaam regions together with Unguja island and the surrounding areas in Tanzania.

TC #Hidaya is expected to make landfall in #Tanzania today and is set to be the only fifth tropical cyclone to directly hit the country since the beginning of reliable records.

Tropical Cyclone Hidaya is approaching the coast of Tanzania with expected winds and possible flooding rains.
Red Cross teams in the regions expected to be affected have started mobilizing volunteers.

🚨 A small cyclone named Hidaya is forecasted to make landfall off Tanzania's coast today, authorities caution.
The warning extends to heavy rainfall anticipated across various regions from May 3 to 6. This further compounds the already severe flood situation in the country.
Tanzania has declared a national state of emergency due to severe floods in Pwani (Rufiji + Kibiti districts) and Morogoro (Kilombero district).
Over 10,000 families have been displaced & more than 8,000 homes damaged.
