@PayNoHeed__@MacticsG1 Ok but then include the variables. X = # of returning players, Y = # new players. Compare cost/benefit to Marathon’s totals. Factor lost revenues from mismanagement of assets/ignoring staff/community (where losses could have been gains)… you get a bigger number.
🚨 The "Develop Destiny 3" petition has now crossed 200,000 signatures in just three days, as the community calls on everyone to log in on June 9 for one last big Destiny 2 sendoff - https://t.co/W8xgbPuUSf
The official petition for Destiny 3 after the announcement of Destiny 2's final update has way more signatures than Marathon's peak player count. https://t.co/o88ds8H8xu
There’s a false narrative being pushed that Destiny 2 players don’t want anyone playing Marathon. We just don’t want to play Marathon. And we know from experience that playing a different game won’t do anything to bring Destiny back.
@BlameItOnRyen Companies invest in what sells. People invest in stocks when they go up. Supporting Marathon would validate Bungie’s choice to ignore Destiny and invest more in Marathon. There’s a reason Mortal Kombat didn’t make another Mythologies game after Sub Zero flopped.
I hate how short sighted all these companies are. They only think in terms of quarterly short term gains with no sense or care for the value of long term investments. 🧵🪡

For almost twelve years, we have had the joy and honor to explore the Destiny universe with you all. Through all the ups and downs, surprises and triumphs, building Destiny alongside our players has been a monumental privilege. While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2.
As our focus turns towards a new beginning for Bungie, we will begin work incubating our next games. To that end, on June 9, 2026, we will release the final live-service content update for Destiny 2 to begin that new journey as a studio.
Though active development may be concluding, we will ensure that Destiny 2 remains playable, just as the original Destiny is today. Many changes in this final update will aim to ensure that Destiny 2 is a welcoming place for players to return to.
We’re proud of Destiny 2, the places it took us, and the legacy it has created. Because of you all, our universe is vast, built on years of shared stories, adventures, and victories. From the Cosmodrome to the Pale Heart to the Lawless Frontier, we have forged life-long memories and friendships with you all.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made that journey with us.
From the deepest part of our hearts, thank you, and we'll see you in the stars.
3/ That’s like being in a toxic relationship with a person who can never hold a job and all of a sudden they’re all “Babe! I got it. I’m going back to school to start a brand new career… in 2 or 3 years.. can you cover the rent for me til I figure things out?”
If anything, Destiny 2 would need a surge of new players. And conversely, a reduced Marathon community. At the end of the day, investors go where the money goes.
I wish this were true. Unfortunately, if everyone bought into Marathon, that would only validate the Bungie execs decision to scrap Destiny 2 and invest more in Marathon. Because from their POV, that’s where the money is.
Marathon did not kill Destiny. It seems to be the contrary.
Marathon is the only thing that can save Destiny right now, and it might be the only thing that can save Bungie.
Look at any company, historically. When Nokia stopped making phones and started making other tech, they never went back to phones. Mortal Kombat never made another Mythologies game after Sub Zero flopped. How many Marvel/DCEU franchises were scrapped never to be seen again?

Jesse Watters’ existence is both baffling and a prime example of how to get ahead at work. I don’t think he’s as ignorant as the character he portrays, but he sticks to the script and follows orders with a smile on his face.
Watters: There are over 20,000 McDonalds, Taco Bells, and KFCs in China. Once the US gets fast food into a country, that's it, they start listening to our music, watching our movies, they start marrying our women -- I'm just kidding, we don't allow that. That's basically now an American colony.
