Madam Speaker, Executive Mayor, fellow Councillors, and residents of Johannesburg, as the GOOD Party, we rise today to affirm our commitment to ethical leadership, spatial justice, and a sustainable, equitable Johannesburg. Yesterday, the Executive Mayor delivered his State of the City Address and it was a masterclass in political spin, grand visions, ambitious timelines, and lofty ideals. But the people of Johannesburg know better. They live the truth daily, with a city in deep and visible decline, barrelling towards oblivion with no end in sight.

Ahead of the State of the City Address, GOOD National Chairperson and Joburg Councillor @MattCook4GOOD arrives with Louise Basson, Ward 57 GOOD activist and Yasmeen Younes, Chairperson of the Ward 17 GOOD Branch.

Inside council, Cook connected with Councillor Mandla Moekena (APC) and Councillor Fatima Abdool (UIM). 

Cook says the city is “barreling towards oblivion,” with collapsing services and no real solutions in sight.

@ForGoodZA will continue to speak up about the ongoing failings of the current administration.

Well done to @ActionSA_JHB and other parties that refused to betray the people of Johannesburg.

We will never support a budget that forces residents especially the poor to pay for the @MYANC failures.

Mayor @DadaMorero previously committed to removing the electricity surcharge burdening residents, yet today, he failed to honor that promise. Instead, he and the parties that voted in favor of this adjustment budget chose to keep unfair costs in place, failing the very people they claim to serve @CityofJoburgZA

For the budget: ANC, EFF, PA, IFP, ALJAMA-AH, AIC, AHC,APC, ATM, COPE, GOOD, PAC, UDM, UIM
