@waltermasterson Then while we eat we can discuss how people tend to take scripture out of context in order for it to align with their own modern political beliefs! Pass the dressing plz
Remember when “born that way” was the defining justification for people saying that we should encourage people to commit homosexual acts?
The idea was that a person had an unchangeable quality/desire they were born with, and that it was therefore good for them to follow it.
Some responded by pointing out that many people are seemingly born with disordered desires and that it would be clearly wrong to follow them. I was selfish from as early as I can recall. And jealous. Theft and lying came so natural to me that I had to be taught not to. But this argument fell on deaf ears most of the time. For whatever reason, being gay was seen as a special kind of ingrained reality that is NOT ONLY present at birth but is ultimately how a person is SUPPOSED TO live.
Then they tried to prove it with genetics. Various studies came out trying to show that people were literally, genetically hardwired to be gay. Those studies didn’t work but they got all over the press anyways. Some pro-gay advocates never let it go. They still promote genetic gayness and twist the data all day long, looking for the smallest bit of genetic justification for a “born that way” morality.
Fast forward to today. We’ve added bisexual to the list. It just snuck in there without any justification related to how one is born. The bisexual can’t claim to be a victim of there desires and that they are morally right to follow the only path to love they have, which goes against heterosexual marriage. Then comes the “T”. Transgender people are literally fighting against how they were genetically born. It doesn’t matter to the LGBT agenda if a trans person “felt like the opposite sex” for their whole life or if it’s a 50 year old man who, going through midlife crisis, just feels like being a woman and is willing to change his life and family to that end. This isn’t even to mention the “Q” side of things.
How you’re born doesn’t matter to the LGBT agenda. Such is the case with many of the justifications they have used to move society to a place of “acceptance”. They (those who promote such agendas, not those tempted with sexual sin) never held their own rules to heart. They said “born that way” because it was effective marketing, not because it was something they felt they needed to be true in order to believe what they believed.
It’s all marketing. All of it. Every slogan. Every agenda talking point.
In the end, LGBTQ agenda pushers stand for one thing, and it isn’t human rights. They stand for rebellion against God’s design in man and woman.
Jesus didn't explicitly say anything about homosexuality for a good reason. Let's not kid ourselves about it.
The Jewish contexts he was in were in widespread agreement that it was sinful to engage in same-sex sexual practices. The Old Testament clearly calls it out as such. No right-minded person can take Jesus not speaking to the topic of homosexuality as room for approval any more than they can take Jesus not speaking about bestiality as approval.
Now, when the gospel went from the Jewish world into the Gentile world it entered a new context. No longer were they preaching to communities who all agreed that homosexuality was a sin. No longer were they talking to people who were tied to the Old Testament and it's moral compass. That's why Paul spoke very specifically to the topic in Romans 1 and 1 Corinthians 9. When the gospel went to people who had a problem with same-sex sin, the gospel rebuked that sin.
Those who imply that Jesus didn't have an opinion on the topic, or avoided it (usually as an excuse for their own cowardice on the topic, to be honest) are making a harmful mistake.
When is it ok to ignore certain sins? When the culture around you is so loudly against them that you don't need to bother waking people's consciences on the topic. That is obviously not the case with same-sex sin in our culture.
In 1986, The American Medical Association published an article titled "The Physical Death of Jesus Christ". It details the entire process of Jesus' trial to His death on the cross.
In Luke 22, before Jesus is arrested, it is written that He was in great distress & sweating blood. Although rare, it is recognized as Hematidrosis, caused by high amounts of stress.
At the time, the crucifixion was considered the worst death for the worst of criminals. But this is not all Jesus faced. He endured whipping so severe that it tore the flesh from His body. He was beaten so horribly that His face was torn & His beard ripped.
A crown of thorns, 2-3 inches long cut deeply into His scalp. The leather whip used to flog Him had tiny iron balls & sharp bones. The balls caused internal injuries while the sharp bones ripped open His flesh. His skeletal muscles, veins, & bowels are exposed, causing major blood loss. Most men do not survive this kind of torture. After Jesus was severely flogged, He was forced to carry His cross while people mocked & spat on Him.
Crucifixion was a process meant to instill excruciating pain, creating a slow & agonizing death. Nails as long as 8 inches were driven into Jesus' wrists & feet. The Roman soldiers knew the tendon in the wrists would tear & break, forcing Jesus to use His back muscles to support Himself to breathe. Imagine the struggle, the pain, the courage...Jesus endured this reality for 3 hours!
The Gospel of John writes that after Jesus' death, a Roman soldier pierced His side with a spear & blood & water came out. Scientists explain that from hypovolemic shock, the rapid heart rate causes fluid to gather in the sack around the lungs & heart. The gathering of fluid in the membrane around the heart is called Pericardial effusion & the lungs, Pleural effusion.
To the world, Christianity is as foolish as it can get. They believe it's for the weak. But when you are confronted by the reality of the cross, it's clearly not a pretty sight. It is brutal & horrific.
This is the weight Jesus carried. The weight of the sins of the world, all so that we can live. God's wrath is fully satisfied in Jesus. This is what it took. Repent & believe! Jesus is “God among us” in the flesh. Jesus is our Savior. Jesus loves you so much, He went through this spiritual and physical punishment for your sins and mine.
Jesus is the LORD, Almighty God, Everlasting Father.
THANK YOU JESUS!!!
One of the odd things about our current culture is how we look up to openly evil famous people.
Don't get me wrong. There have always been evil famous people. The odd thing is incapsulated in the following two issues.
1) The are openly evil.
In times past famous people more generally lived private lives and were known for doing being great at a particular thing. Due to social media we are privy to the private lives and every possible opinion of famous people. This dispels our false image that their character matches their fame. They regularly chime in with updates about their own immoral choices and viewpoints. Frequently, famous people represent the most morally corrupt views of our culture. It's a lot more difficult nowadays to enjoy an artist's work without finding out about their wacky views and compromised lifestyle.
2) We look up to them.
Whether it's kids looking up to influencers with trash morals like Logan Paul, or adults making excuses for the open ungodliness of their political favorites, women swooning of the Kardashians, or men drinking the Kool-Aid of Andrew Tate, people don't care that much about the bad moral example of famous people they like. They certainly care about the bad moral example of people they DON'T like. That's for sure. But they don't seem to care about the same issues present in their favorites. Worse than that, they like it. They enjoy it. Eventually, they are likely to emulate it.
I'm not just criticizing others here. I've been guilty of this as well.
What is this?
How do we build a love for God such that we stop being uncaring about the promotion of things he hates?
@ZubyMusic If this is what you need to bring people into your. Church then you may want to rethink your gospel! Entertaining goats while starving the sheep!
I often get asked about my thoughts on cholesterol and saturated fat and whether its demonization is just. Well, I'm tired of digging through my bookmarks and photos and decided to compile a thread of what I often share. I'll pin this in my highlights.

Harvard Health claims you don't need red meat.
Yet animal foods contain unique vitamins and minerals we cannot find in any plant sources.
7 nutrients you'll only find in meat:
Butter has been demonized for decades.
The experts told us it “clogged arteries”.
But it’s actually health-promoting for a large percentage of people.
I’ll cover who should be concerned. And for the rest of us, I’ll cover the healthiest kind of butter.
