Tom Segura says selling out arenas doesn’t make a comedian Mount Rushmore level
"Part of why so many of us are doing theaters and arenas now is the landscape has changed. It's not that we are all Mount Rushmore comedians. If I were the same guy doing the same thing in 1999, I would not be on the same trajectory selling tickets. We live in the age of the internet where things are streaming, things are on YouTube. People have more access to the talent pool of comedians than ever before."
"Podcasts play a huge role in it. And so do the streaming services. Netflix in particular has been home for me for 12 to 13 years. You couldn't predict it would become this international juggernaut where millions of people subscribe and can see you perform. That definitely made an impact."
"If it were a different time, if I'm lucky, I'd be selling out clubs. And people don't realize that somebody who can sell out a club is in the 1% of 1% of comedians. It's really special."
