For those fellow sportswriters who are lamenting the death of the Sports Illustrated vault, one of the best resources on the web until recently, the New York Public Library has just created a portal to the SI archives. You have to have an NYPL library card to access it, though.
JFK once invited to dinner 49 Nobel laureates, Robert Frost, William Styron, Ernest Hemingway, James Baldwin, Katherine Anne Porter, John Dos Passos, James Farrell and Lionel and Diana Trilling, and others. His line on the occasion became famous: “I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House—with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."
Some of you were alive when that happened.
“To write for a Black family, you start asking yourself, ‘What am I doing?’ So we cast all Black actors for Gerald’s family — that helped with authenticity. Then we listened to Jamil, Gerald’s voice actor, loved his phrasing and pacing, and wrote more of what he brought. In the ’90s, we were doing our best just to show different ethnicities on screen, thinking it’d be cool for a kid to see Gerald and say, ‘Finally, a character that looks more like me.’ People tell me that now.”

Hegseth removed Chappie James's portrait from the Air Force Art Gallery and left the wall empty.
James flew 179 combat missions across two wars. First Black four-star general in US military history.
Curry passed that portrait every day for a decade. When it came down, he retired.
The wall is still empty.
Floyd Norman will receive an honorary Oscar.
He was the first black animator at Disney and had a 65-year run at the studio working on films such as ‘Sleeping Beauty’, ‘The Jungle Book’, ‘Mulan’ and ‘Toy Story 2’.
This is a devastating interview.
Scott Pelley tells the NYT that Bari Weiss directly put a “thumb on the scale” for Trump over the killing of Renee Good.
Here’s his explanation of exactly what happened.
Scott Pelley issues new statement after being fired by CBS for opposing their pro-MAGA bias:
“New management has instructed me to inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story. I’ve been told to include assertions that are unverified. To date, in every case, I have managed to ignore these instructions or refuse them.
Recently, politicians have been invited to choose correspondents for interviews on the broadcast. Giving politicians control over 60 Minutes interviews is not how this is done.
Finally, incompetence and unprofessionalism in the new management have wreaked havoc. In a case involving one of my stories, the entire program came within 19 minutes of not getting on the air at all.”
Tonight @PBSAmerMasters premieres the new film by Rita Coburn about the life and work of the great W.E.B. Du Bois. Hope you have a chance to watch: https://t.co/tyV46KdsPY
RIP Charlie Neal, the play-by-play man who brought college football to BET.
And Charlie hosted a BET sportswriter roundtable with @RealMikeWilbon, Ralph Wiley, and others that was on TV before The Sports Reporters.

All the talk is about Michael, Magic, Bird and now LeBron but @JuliusErving carried the @NBA and pro basketball in the 1970s damn near by himself when it came to entertainment and MUST SEE players in that era.
I don’t think he gets enough praise for how FANtastic he was……
