@draper_rob TT had plenty of options @ hydration break to get England 20 yds up the pitch (which was needed). Still had all 5 subs available. Bring on Saka, Rashford, Watkins, Mainoo and Eze for the front 4 plus Rice would have meant we could have threatened Arg rather than retreating.
@AlexisIsKavkas He picked those players, TAA, MGW, Palmer, Foden, Wharton, Scott and Mainoo all better at retaining possession than the players he picked. But hey Anderson and Rice run around a lot and tackle people.
@SamCKx There was still 15 minutes to go when Argentina scored their first goal and they’d already missed chances, hit the post and created loads. We were never 5 minutes away we were always going to lose. Had it gone to extra time it might have been 5-1.
@SamCKx Tuchel doesn’t get a pass because of the hydration break. We had retreated after the goal and it was obvious in just that 10 minutes we were in trouble. That was the moment to change it - bring on fresh legs (not defenders) and get us up the pitch - he failed that test.
@louorns This is why England lose, Anderson is amazing because he runs about and tackles people. While Wharton was left behind because he can keep the ball and can see a pass. Rice, Anderson and Bellingham as our midfield diamond nine of them are good at passing the ball.
@McFlybowy 100% disagree. What the fans want is for England to be brave. Spain don’t try to defend the edge of their own box, Argentina didn’t after they went ahead. We don’t mind losing but that was a cowardly way to lose and I’m not sure why we do it.
@ToonFan14 This has become a bit of a trend recently, that defenders are allowed to be clumsy and it’s not considered a foul. I don’t disagree that Spence knew what he was doing but how is this different to Tielmans getting his foot across versus Senegal or the Kane one against Mexico.
@tonywestonuk@garyseconomics The idea that foreign investments are made by individuals is quite silly. It’s will be a business even if that is only a front for an individual. Plus the govt often provides tax breaks to those companies and then justifies them not paying any taxes because they create jobs.
@Mr_Ess8@RollingHedge@DanNeidle@garyseconomics@DanielPriestley Periodic taxes on trusts are pretty generous - 6% every ten years. So if the family trust is earning 5% per annum (very likely on the low side) the growth over ten years is at least ten times that. So you avoid IHT completely for what is a negligible tax.
@LoftusSteve@DanNeidle@nufc89ta@krishgm CGT is too low when it’s essentially replacing income tax, other than that for a genuine investment with risk I can make a case for it being too high and I agree with both indexation and loss refunds.
@LoftusSteve@DanNeidle@nufc89ta@krishgm Don’t disagree provided you don’t allow buy, borrow, die with no taxation. Plus in some cases CGT charged is too low (too high on others in my view), when it is essentially replacing income tax.
@DanNeidle@nufc89ta@LoftusSteve@krishgm What would be your estimate for the £5m household? Is it below 30%? I’ve heard you say a few times CGT is both too high and too low at the same time, which I think is almost certainly correct.
@greenpolocat@LoftusSteve That’s not true though is it. If you were constantly being challenged about your legitimacy to talk about a subject you would defend yourself and site your educational achievements.
@DanNeidle@neocentrist For most major economies it’s trie to say those aren’t the lowest tax nations on earth. So if the super rich can live anywhere they don’t simply choose the lowest tax locations. On this basis they will be some relationship between the amount of additional tax and any exodus.
@DanNeidle@nufc89ta@LoftusSteve@krishgm TY for responding. My view - total taxes through direct & indirect taxation of a single income household on £50k has an effective tax rate of c.30% but if your income (wealth growth) is £5m pa. it’s around 24% & that 6% gap is the issue. We don’t need to tax the rich less.
@DanNeidle@nufc89ta@LoftusSteve@krishgm I believe GS said that he isn’t a tax expert so he is talking in principles - tax wealth not work. You are a tax expert & have good suggestions on better methodologies. The question is do you agree that we need to shift the tax burden or all the assets flow in one direction?
@Th_Angelopoulos Best guesses are just over 30% total taxes for the £50k single income household and around 24% of the single income £5m household. It’s that missing 6% that is the issue.
@Th_Angelopoulos Great insight and framing. The fram int can simply be amended to don’t tax the rich less as a proportion of income/wealth growth. Should a room containing 100 households earning £50k total p.a. pay more or less tax then a room with one household increasing wealth by £5m p.a. ?
