Sometimes the loudest person in the room accidentally tells the truth.

Laura Loomer's social media feed resembles a chemical spill of personal grievances, vulgarity, and accusations that would make a tabloid editor blush. Yet buried beneath the profanity was an observation worth taking seriously.

The Florida governor's race increasingly looks less like a competitive election and more like a succession plan drafted in Washington. The party apparatus has chosen its favorite. The rules have been adjusted accordingly. The voters are being encouraged to applaud the outcome before the contest has even begun.

That should concern anyone who spent the last decade complaining about elite control of the political process.

Self-government only works when voters retain the ability to surprise the people managing the machinery. Floridians are not being given a fair deal, an election is being rigged right in front of them, and its “lead candidate” was chosen as part of a political pissing match between the president and Florida’s governor.

Meanwhile, James Fishback is actually running for an office to serve the state of Florida, and not as a pawn in a Washington power play.

The chairman of the party should not be insulting the intelligence of Republican voters. A debate was promised and these ridiculous criteria are being used to renege on that promise and to engineer a preferred outcome.

Why not just take 90 minutes, find a tv partner, and let the candidates mix it up?

The only reason why you wouldn’t is if the party hierarchy is serving outside interests instead of the best interests of the voters.
