Spent some time cleaning up my late-60s Celestron C8 this weekend with hopes to try out some astrophotography this winter. Stacked a few short passes of Saturn through the eyepiece with my cell phone before dragging out my big cameras for more prime focus photography!
Newest paper just dropped! We discuss how a lightweight, unsupervised machine learning tool (typically not synonymous) can be used to detect geophysical events from a variety of time-series spacecraft observations, with an emphasis on the potential for onboard application.
@erisahasani3 My experience as a postdoc (currently in my second, at a different institution) has been that I was given a laptop for use at work, with whatever reasonable specs I wanted. As a graduate student, though, that definitely was not the case.
Newest paper just dropped at Geoscientific Instrumentation! We present a physically-synthesized dataset that can help to validate the performance of magnetic interference mitigation algorithms for spaceflight magnetometers.

Second time in a row that my flight from CID -> DCA was canceled, this time due to mechanical issues. Only cut ~14hr off my weekend on this round, which is better than last time!
@KyleMorgenstein Bose QCE Mk2 is by far the nicest noise canceling earbuds I've ever used. Great for planes, subways, calls (even Zoom/Teams with work computers), etc. Since they just released the QCE Ultras, the QCE Mk2 is probably on sale!
@KyleMorgenstein@yupes_ Are you ever concerned that the money will, instead of helping, enable potential negative behaviors? Although I try to give occasionally to the unhomed, this question always makes me uneasy.
