Building a sustainable peace in Ukraine will require de-oligarchizing and dismantling Russia’s wartime economy and creating a new economic security architecture for Europe. In today’s @just_security, I argue that sanctions alone will not achieve these goals.

As an American leading a titanium business in Ukraine, I participated in this meeting with President Zelensky during the @UN General Assembly. We discussed the bold new economic partnership that @POTUS and @ZelenskyyUa have launched to help Ukraine defend against Russia and the United States compete with China. We saw how @SecScottBessent and Prime Minister @Svyrydenko_Y are making rapid progress to finance industrial scale projects to produce critical minerals.
I had an important conversation with the presidents and CEOs of leading American companies. We discussed the potential for greater investment in Ukraine and support for our economy.
We continue reforms, move forward on the path to EU membership, and develop strong co-production of drones along with more than three hundred tech companies. Dozens of major companies are already willing to become our partners. A United States–Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund has already been launched, with initial contributions amounting to $150 million.
I am grateful to everyone who is investing, supplying equipment and technology, and growing stronger together with Ukraine. I thank the United States for its support and for understanding that only strength will compel the head of Russia to come to the negotiating table.

In Ukraine, the fight against corruption is the fight against Russia. In this article for @AtlanticCouncil, I discuss why Ukraine civil society mobilized the first mass demonstrations since the war started to defend the independence of anti-corruption institutions.
Ukraine's efforts to combat corruption on the domestic front play a vital role in the country's broader fight for national survival against resurgent Russian imperialism, writes @MatthewHMurray1.

In an article for @AtlanticCouncil, “ @MatthewHMurray1 addresses the question: “Is Ukraine’s fight against corruption a distraction from its war against Russia — or a pillar of national defense?” The evidence, he concludes, supports the latter https://t.co/L6fDYo427i
The US-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund has begun its operational work with its first contribution.
The US Development Finance Corporation @DFCgov has made a pilot commitment of $75 million, which Ukraine will match. This joint step launches the Fund’s practical activity, with initial focus on projects in energy, infrastructure, and critical minerals. Until the end on 2026, we plan to implement three large-scale projects.
The Fund is built on the principle of equality. Ukraine assumes the same financial obligations as the American side, underlining both our responsibility and our vision of the Fund as a genuine instrument of shared recovery and long-term cooperation.
This decision opens the way to financing modern industries, creating new jobs, and advancing technological solutions that strengthen Ukraine’s economy and security. The start-up capital also carries broader meaning: American investment in Ukraine becomes a guarantee of security for both Ukraine and American business operating here.
I thank our American partners for their trust. Together, we are turning solidarity into real projects that will shape the future.
@potus and European leaders agree a durable peace in Ukraine requires security guarantees to deter future Russian aggression. In this interview with @indavemedia, I discuss how @SecScottBessent and Ukraine Prime Minister @Svyrydenko_Y are strengthening security through U.S.-Ukraine economic partnership

During their August 15 meeting, President Trump can determine quickly whether President Putin is ready to stop Russia’s war against Ukraine. In this https://t.co/tknLToS1Ds - @washtimesoped I recommend that President Trump start the meeting by telling President Putin "I will not talk about how to solve the root causes of the war". If Putin insists @potus should tell him, “I would rather have a root canal”.
As national governments remain stuck in geopolitics, can smart cities catalyze peace-making by creating economic opportunity, stability, and prosperity and empowering citizens to protect human rights? Here is my interview with @smartccouncil https://t.co/0VAaWgskNf

Reducing the war against Ukraine to “one man’s doing and one man’s problem” allows Russia to evade the topic of collective responsibility and create further distraction and confusion in efforts to seek justice, writes Mariya Chukhnova.

“For all my years in public life, I have believed that America must sail toward the shores of liberty and justice for all. There is no end to that journey, only the next great voyage. We know the future will outlast all of us, but I believe that all of us will live on in the future we make.” - Senator Ted Kennedy
On the 15th anniversary of Senator Kennedy’s passing, we honor his expansive legacy of building an America that prioritized the needs of all Americans. For 47 years, Senator Kennedy dedicated his time in the Senate to fighting for the rights of Americans with disabilities, a fair minimum wage, environmental protection, healthcare expansion, immigration reform, and countless other pressing national concerns. It was terrific to collaborate with @JonDKatz and @BrookingsGov at #IACC2024 as they strengthen financial transparency standards and build new international coalitions to hold corrupt actors accountable
The largest anti-corruption forum #IACC2024 wrapped up & @BrookingsGov ACDS successfully launched our Financial Transparency & Integrity Community of Learning & Action (COLA) & hosted impactful sessions on frontline anti-corruption challenges @NormEisen: https://t.co/zphdhPSgFe
Spoke at #IACC2024 on War and Corruption. Russia uses corruption to control neighbors like Georgia, hindering EU/NATO aspirations. Georgians must resist corruption and defend civil society. There's hope: past reforms and a determined new generation will protect our independence.
