The situation of the healthcare system in Gaza is deteriorating in a catastrophic and absolutely terrifying way.

The shortage of medicines in Gaza has now exceeded 55%, while the shortage of medical consumables has surpassed 70%, and the shortage of laboratory supplies has exceeded 80%.

Also, as of this moment, the healthcare sector has lost more than 80% of its X-ray, CT scan, and MRI machines. There is now only one CT scanner remaining in northern Gaza, serving more than one million people.

The number of patients and injured people continues to increase every day. More than 22,000 patients and injured people are now in urgent need of treatment abroad, including more than 5,000 cancer patients who require chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and specialized examinations.

In addition, more than 10,000 injured people require advanced surgical interventions, including reconstructive orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, and cardiovascular surgery.

There are also around 350,000 patients with chronic illnesses who are not receiving their medications regularly, including approximately 71,000 diabetes patients facing shortages of essential treatment and monitoring supplies.

Around 2,500 children with diabetes also require regular daily testing to properly adjust their treatment doses.

Gaza is now facing one of the most horrific collapses of the healthcare and medical sectors in the history of humanity. Patients and the wounded are slowly dying here because they cannot access even the most basic necessities of medical care, treatment, and medication.

This is a catastrophe that the world must not remain silent about or turn a blind eye to. Thousands of lives are hanging in the balance because of this silence, while thousands of patients and injured people are simply waiting for the opportunity to receive the treatment that could save their lives.

This collapse cannot continue before the eyes of the world without urgent action.

Much has already been written about the hypocrisy of this letter. But one claim deserves particular attention. The authors repeat the story that Israel struck the ‘transgender section’ of Evin prison, purportedly housing 100 transgender prisoners. This false story circulated internationally after it was reported by the New York Times, before later investigations found no evidence to support it and the key source denied ever making the claim attributed to him.

Having spent my PhD years researching HIV in Iran, a subject that necessarily involved studying the legal, social and healthcare realities facing transgender people, I know full well that transgender people are not imprisoned in Iran for being transgender. Iran legally recognises transgender people and permits gender reassignment surgery. Furthermore, there are no dedicated prison wings housing 100 transgender prisoners.

Yet people who were willing to uncritically repeat such an implausible story are now writing open letters to Iranian prisoners, as though they possess a deep understanding of the people they claim to write to. It is another reminder of how often narratives about Iran are constructed from assumptions and second-hand mythologies, rather than from serious engagement with realities on the ground.

It's as if life in Gaza has become unbearably constricted for us; we're neither able to overcome everything we've been through, nor do we have the strength to continue as if nothing has happened. It's a true drain on time, on our very existence, on our lives.

I'm often amazed by our ability to survive, and even more amazed that we still strive to remain strong and conscious. This is how we always want to be: standing firm, resilient, facing challenges, and continuing on our path. Perhaps this determination alone is what keeps us strong.

But in truth, we are fully aware of how much we need a break—a break where we can cry without shame, and return, even briefly, to what we were before everything changed.

The accusation that I am antisemitic is appalling and fundamentally dishonest. Criticizing the actions of the Israeli prime minister, a military technology contract, or the executives who supply it is not the same as criticizing Jewish people. This critical and necessary dialogue is then dishonestly framed as being anti-Israel. To be clear, my views come from my own political convictions and should never be interpreted as hostility toward Jewish people, for whom I have deep love and respect.  Everything I know about acting, activism, and humanism has been profoundly shaped by the Jewish friends, colleagues, and loved ones who have been integral and family throughout every point of my life.

This merger has real consequences for real people, and for the entire country. Scrutinizing the Ellisons, including Oracle’s business built on data, surveillance technology and government contracts, and the serious threat to editorial freedom and the loss of a livelihood for thousands of families, is fair and necessary. The $111 billion deal would hand one family control over CNN, HBO and Warner Bros., backed in part by foreign money whose influence on editorial decisions has never been fully explained to the public. 

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have called for serious national security review, and regulators still haven’t given the public a real answer. Until they do, the merger shouldn’t move forward. Now is the time to dive boldly into all these issues, not step back or concede.

Israel's experiment in building local collaborator militias in Gaza is collapsing.

On Friday, dozens of members of the Israeli-backed group led by Ashraf al-Mansi, among them women and children, crossed back over the Yellow Line and surrendered to Palestinian security forces in Beit Lahia, with initial testimonies describing assaults and crimes committed inside the militia camps.

Gaza's Radaa force said 40 people have returned to their people after joint efforts with the clans and families. It comes as Hamas has secured a key demand in the ceasefire roadmap: that these Israeli-armed groups be disarmed and permanently barred from any future security force.
