This is the first time I mostly hold BTC as an investment. For the NGU.

Before, it was the biggest no-brainer far beyond that.

It was the exit. The rock solid, unfuckable-with store of value. Separation of money from state. No third parties. Sovereignty. Digital truth in the form of a lean monetary ledger.

Those qualities have, in my opinion, eroded a lot. Slow capture. More centralization. More relativizing and fiatizing of what Bitcoin is for. And there are seemingly no brakes. Just cheering when the people who still wanted Bitcoin to be money, not data storage, lost.

Nodes decide, not miners. That used to be shared ground. Now it will get you ridiculed.

I do not see the current trajectory, governance capture, or mining concentration reversing, not with the current attitude and behavior from the suits, the influencers and the social layer in general. That is why my faith in the project today is much weaker than it used to be.

I am not calling the Blake2b chain Bitcoin.

I am glad the fork happened. It is a live attempt to reassert principles a lot of us thought were settled: monetary protocol, hostile to spam, nodes enforcing rules, miners do not get to veto by selling block space for JPEGs and other non-monetary use.

Whether it works at any meaningful scale is unknown. The energy around it is real. That resonates more with me than victory laps from people who treated BIP-110 as a joke and then celebrated when centralized hashpower blocked it.

My position:

I am not selling my BTC.
I am not telling anyone else to sell.
I intend to hold both sides for now.
Nobody should be buying or selling either side of this split yet. The dust has not settled, liquidity is a joke, and rushed claim tools are how you lose funds.

I urge everyone to make their own, well researched and responsible decisions.

Most of my attention and interest now goes to the chain that still treats spam as spam, instead of inviting more of it and saying the debate is settled.

@LawrenceLepard @Jethroe111 @Puncher522 🤯….and then some other dude was like “hell yeah, great idea, I’ll go first.” Absolute balls of steel. 🫡

[Matty Mick @MattyMick5]

@LawrenceLepard @Jethroe111 @Puncher522 the fact that one dude said, I got an idea...."we'll stop the jet with a hook and cable" and everyone went along with it still blows my mind

@Jethroe111 First thing I do when I enter the water is pull the bands on my speargun. Normally a gentle nudge with the tip of spear cures curiosity, but there’s always a backup plan if curiosity gets aggressive.

@stackhodler Greed brings everyone to the altar. A 20-30% move back toward all time highs and buyers will return in scale, especially in the face of QE and cooling AI returns. Narratives around catalysts are built to explain moves.

@Jethroe111 There is the way it is.

There is the way it ought to be.

Denying the former is denying reality.

Abandoning the latter is surrendering the future.

Today is BIP110 day.

I will repeat my stance once again.
No sweat off my back upon succes or failure.
I run my supporting RDTS node.

The reasoning behind BIP110 is 100% Bitcoin maximalism.
The cypherpunk drive to keep Bitcoin for use as money ONLY!
Further efforts are needed.

The discussions and friction seen is normal.
Bad actors have been telling on themselves by being spam friendly and applauding newly found exploits.
The work will continue as these will serve as the basis to see where consensus needs to be further aligned to kick out spam and unwanted arbitrary data.

[Stoney Bitson @GhostOfStoneyX2]

I will be setting up my node tonight after moving. Been super busy.

Listened to @hodlonaut podcast with Cedric today. I will be running BIP110.

Miners don’t control the network, nodes do.

See pinned tweet from February, or just block me; been around long enough don’t care.

[Joyce Dawn @BitcoinWifey]

If we lose this war, Bitcoin becomes a shitcoin.

Bitcoin isn’t protected by slogans or untouched code. It survives because Bitcoiners recognize attacks, defend boundaries, and refuse profitable corruption.

Relativism destroys everything it touches, and it’s made its way into Bitcoin, redefining it from hard money to a market for blockspace.

The once principled + courageous community has been diluted with parasites.

What follows..
21 million will be abandoned.
Decentralization lost.
No longer censorship resistant, no longer immutable, sovereign use will disappear.

Bitcoin will survive as the crown jewel of the global financial control system it was built to destroy.

And the podcasters will celebrate.. because surrender is always popular, profitable, and safe inside the clique.

But Bitcoin hasn’t lost yet.

Normies can't help but to focus on money's role as a medium of exchange.

We live in a Consumption-based society after all.

But what most fail to grok (or acknowledge) is that the core feature of Money--and all of Finance, really--actually revolves around Purchasing Power.

IMPORTANT: The Creation and Control of money are the proverbial Keys to the Kingdom.

Whoever Creates and Controls money also has the ultimate say regarding the Purchasing Power of its Users (or Participants).

When the State Creates and Controls your money, they get to decide how much--if any--of your Purchasing Power they will confiscate over time.

And...

Since the ability to confiscate (aka, "steal") our Purchasing Power via the Creation and Control of money is nearly irresistible, the State chooses this option... every time.

Always. Without fail.

Until the State grows so large relative to its underlying People's waning Purchasing Power, that the State fails.

This has happened time and again throughout recorded history.

And it's happening again.

Right now. Across the Modern World.

But especially in Europe, the United States, and Japan.

These countries have accumulated so much debt--that is, they have borrowed, taxed, inflated, stolen, and spent their countrymen's Purchasing Power--and have grown so large, that their citizens' Purchasing Power is no longer able to sustain their grotesque girth.

Bitcoin--for the first time in recorded history--changes this dynamic.

It puts the Creation and Control of money directly and irrevocably into the hands of the People.

This means that the People get to remain in charge of their Purchasing Power--not the Aristocrats--for the first time in recorded history.

This is why it is Critical to keep the Bitcoin Network Decentralized and Secure... well away from those who would like to manipulate it to regain and restore the Creation and Control of your Purchasing Power.

Bitcoin is truly Better Money for a Better World, because it is Of the People, By the People, For the People.

This is a Once in a Species opportunity for lowly, hard-working, honest, regular people... so let's not blow it.

That is all.

Cheers.

If miners don't want to make themselvesthe target of government coercion, they will signal for BIP110.

A failure to accept a UASF with 20% of nodes signaling and no protocol level counter signal will show that it is miners, not node runners, who control Bitcoin.

Once governments see this they will start to pressure miners to do their bidding regarding Bitcoin protocol changes.

Deferring to the node runners offers a layer of protection they won't have when the people with a monopoly on violence gets it in their heads that pressure on the miners will give them the changes they want.

That Bitcoin's changes—changes to Bitcoin itself—need to prove themselves. Simply put, it's not a good idea to make upgrades to Bitcoin that leave a lot of room for flexibility. Changes to the Bitcoin base layer should be targeted, specific, and provably beneficial, while being as free from unintended consequences as possible.

That principle is entirely antithetical to what Bitcoin Core has been putting forward. SegWit had some of this. Taproot had a lot of this.

To tie it back to permissionlessness and BIP-110 for a moment: the network can change the rules of the system without compromising Bitcoin's permissionless nature. You don't need permission from a central controller to use Bitcoin—that property remains intact.

But the rules themselves can change.

Every upgrade, every soft fork, every hard fork changes the rules of what is allowed in Bitcoin. Making a change that says, "Here are the new limits you have to live within," is, in my view, perfectly valid and perfectly acceptable. There is nothing wrong with that from a governance perspective.

Yes, you're taking transactions that were previously valid and saying they are no longer valid. But Bitcoin, as a protocol, needs to be able to pull back from unintended consequences. It needs to be able to roll back changes that create security vulnerabilities or introduce problems.

Because we don't know the future.

We don't know every possibility that could emerge. We don't know what AI might discover years from now, hidden within the protocol.

Bitcoin, as a network, needs to be flexible enough to roll back changes that failed to produce their intended outcome—or that ultimately prove to be a net negative instead of a net positive.

That's what BIP-110 is to me.

It is a partial rollback—or more accurately, a restriction—of changes that have been made to Bitcoin over the years. It limits data vectors. It doesn't eliminate the ability to include data in Bitcoin; it simply says that you have to operate within defined limits.

I would argue that this is completely reasonable. It does not degrade Bitcoin's permissionlessness. It does not weaken its censorship resistance. And it certainly is not censorship.

@mattkratter @separ8 @btcbourne I rewatched your seedsinger video last night, published about a month ago. You call out the closed source firmware risk to CC at the 5:20 mark and discuss risk of wallets getting drained. Painfully prescient Sir. Thank you for continuing to call out risks and bad actors.

[Matty Mick @MattyMick5]

@FieldNas Ok I give up. Another failure during download. Time to up the hardware. Debating between start 9, umbrel home or mini pc. Node functioned without issue….until it didnt.

[Matty Mick @MattyMick5]

@FieldNas Had a failure a couple of weeks ago and reindex=1 didnt fix it. I’m underway with a full reindex. Like watching paint dry on a pi5 w 2tb ssd. Node hardware requirements are increasing as are the costs. Hope you reindex quickly.
