@HMIPrisonsnews Just to mention that Send also houses the only women's Democratic Therapeutic Community in Europe and possibly the world within a prison as well as PIPE unit adding to its culture of rehabilitation and Trauma Informed history
Points to note:
- Prison was safe, caring and respectful
- Women engaged in work and education based on needs
- Excellent array of recreational activities
- Proactive offender management
- Strong support to maintain and rebuild family ties
- Little self-harm or violence.
HMP Send: a very good, well-led, rehabilitation-focused prison

Extremely positive feedback from @HMIPrisonsnews on Pact’s work in HMP Send. 👏 👏 👏
The report praises our family engagement team and prison-based social workers for their efforts to support women and their families. It also highlights the recently launched Let’s Talk volunteer visitor scheme for women who don’t receive visits (more on that soon).

Today, we celebrated 21 years of the Democratic Therapeutic Community at Hmp Send womens Prison in Surrey. I have been an officer in the community for 17 years now. Today, I was very proud of the women and staff who have been a part of this journey through the years.
@John_Podmore It's not just the leadership, but also the mentality of the staff that work there and their relationship with the prisoners. It's also especially about the environment staff are expected to work in, and prisoners are expected to live in...
My final talk in an English #Prison will be at @HmpSend, its going to be symbolic as I first went into Send as a 14yr old child on the 23/01/1985 the talk will be 40 years to the day 23/01/2025. Thanks to Send & @hmpps for supporting, watch this space for whats coming next 💙💡💙
I was lucky enough to visit Hope Steet once more today with other members of staff from Hmp Send, including our governor. The last time I visited, it was just an empty shell. The One Small Thing charity initiative is a wonder to behold, built with a trauma informed ideology.
2023 has been an exciting year for us as an organisation, the year when we opened #HopeStreet and sustained and grew our vital support to the justice and community sectors. We are looking forward to what 2024 will bring!
