The Cape Town Marathon @CTMarathon has officially been confirmed as the eighth Abbott World Marathon Major and the very first to be hosted on African soil. It will officially join the prestigious racing series on May 23, 2027.

The race successfully passed its final multi-year evaluation process to earn this monumental status. For athletes, this marks a massive milestone as completing all the majors expands the running challenge.

The Original Six Stars: Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York City.

The Newest Additions: Sydney (which joined as the seventh) and now Cape Town as the eighth.

World Marathon Majors organization @WMMajors has confirmed that runners who are chasing their coveted medals can still complete the original Six Star medal program, while also opening up the opportunity to earn a new Nine Star medal once the next candidate (Shanghai) is confirmed.
