On Tuesday (Mar 19), Deputy Permanent Representative Ambassador Sangjin Kim participated in the side event of #CSW68 titled "Prevention of Violent Extremism in the Sahel and Meaningful Consultations on Gender."

In his opening remarks, Amb. Kim appreciated that the result of research by @UNICRI suggested a way to transform the vicious cycle of the prevention of violent extremism and gender inequality in the Sahel into a virtuous cycle, and stressed that efforts to understand the unique context and circumstances of each country will be the next crucial step.

The side event was co-hosted by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea, @MauritaniaUn, @UN_CTED, @UN_Women, and @UNICRI, in which the result of research by UNICRI, funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (#KOICA), was presented and discussed.

I welcomed Mauritania's commendable strides towards achieving resilience and sustainable peace and reiterated #Egypt’s continued partnership with Mauritania in support of its proactive approach to conflict prevention and countering extremism for a lasting secure future.

Only through effective #peacebuilding can #Africa achieve sustainable #peace and #development. The #UN #PBC has a crucial and unique role to play to this effect and Egypt will remain engaged at all levels.

I met with the Ambassadors of Jordan 🇯🇴 (Chair of the Arab Group), Mauritania 🇲🇷 (Chair of the OIC), Egypt 🇪🇬, and State of Palestine 🇵🇸 to discuss the seriousness of the crisis in the Middle East.

When the Security Council is unable to act, the General Assembly must step up.

The 10th #UNGA Emergency Special Session will resume this Thursday, 26 October.
