“It (socialism) survived long enough to show what was in it: tyranny, namely, and that new perfection of tyranny, the totalitarian state.”
~ Max Eastman
USSR, Maoist China, Cuba, North Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, the Eastern Bloc states: every single one of them came to power through a Marxist-Leninist (or Maoist-adapted) vanguard party, using Marxist class analysis and dialectical materialism as the explicit doctrinal justification for the seizure and for the one-party state that followed.
There isn't a single counter-example of a socialist state that seized and held power through some non-Marxist doctrinal route.
The ones that took power that way are Marxist by their own self-identification, not by outside attribution.
Socialism and Marxism are "entwined at the root"
This isn't a wishful claim about what socialism must always be, but an accurate description of what actually happened every time it happened.
“If he (Karl Marx) ever performed a generous act, it is not to be found in the record. He was a totally undisciplined, vain, slovenly, and egotistical spoiled child. He was ready at the drop of a hat with spiteful hate. He could be devious, disloyal, snobbish, anti-Semitic, anti-Negro. He was by habit a sponge, an intriguer, a tyrannical bigot who would rather wreck his party than see it succeed under another leader.”
~Max Eastman

The Brownstone Show! Ep. 27
@jeffreytucker & @JoelBowman discuss Milei’s experiment: inflation slashed from 300% to ~30%, massive state cuts, fiscal surpluses, & real-world limits of dismantling socialism. Gradualist reality vs. radical dreams. Lessons for liberty everywhere.
“Our civilization is in peril because so many eager and uncritical minds, beguiled by the communist ideal, instead of being trained in virtue, are trained to renounce all moral standards in the service of their ideal. Those consecrating themselves to communism must not only cast out truth, mercy, justice, and personal honor, but undergo a sickening discipline in lies, cruelty, crime and self abasement.”

Exposing the SPLC on The Brownstone Show w/ @jeffreytucker & @Tyler2ONeil#SPLC listed Christian groups on the “hate map” to boost donations. Watch the whole interview on The Brownstone Show https://t.co/xSEqQh5LOp
The SPLC is just a "Committee for the Struggle Against Bourgeois Nationalism and Reactionary Ideology". Basically a KGB "ideological counter-intelligence" arm.
Exposing the SPLC on The Brownstone Show w/ @jeffreytucker & @Tyler2ONeil#SPLC allegedly paid Charlottesville organizer, ran Klan informant program, used shell companies for laundering, then listed @Moms4Liberty, @TPUSA & Christian groups on the “hate map” to boost donations
I was anti-government programs when I was poor.
I am still anti-government programs now that I'm far less poor.
Unless I have direct control of where MY money goes, I'm against it.
The end.

We are all wildly proud of the work of @brownstoneinst supper clubs, this one from Boston last night with @JanJekielek. Reports of the evening were fantastic. There is one going on nearly every night of the week.
“They dress up the opinion of their adversary as they please, & ascribe sentiments to him which he doth not acknowledge; & when they have with a great deal of pomp attacked & confounded these images of straw of their own making, they triumph over their adversary as though they had utterly confuted his opinion.”
~ Isaac Watts, Logick (1724)

It's oddly curious, but not surprising, that the people I wrote this article about are not the people one would expect. It was written directly at the freedom movement writ large.
'In the words of AIER’s founder, E.C. Harwood, it seems we have again entered what is “fundamentally a retreat from individual freedom, from responsibility and authority for each individual to the sheltering arms of an all-powerful state.” Perhaps we had too much freedom. I’m not entirely convinced that’s the answer, but it’s worth a closer look.'

There are redeeming qualities within the liberty movement. (l)ibertarianism, free-markets, Laissez-faire, individualism, sound money, et al.
It's really sad and unfortunate that so many in the movement have allowed it to be polluted with identity politics, gender politics, intersectionalism, lifestyle signaling, edgelord nihilism, populism, scientism, intellectual AND SOCIAL Robespierre traps, and more damaging negativity than could possibly be covered in a simple post.

“Fascism is the stage reached after communism has proved an illusion, and it has proved as much an illusion in Stalinist Russia as in pre-Hitler Germany.”
— Friedrich Hayek
Attending APEE in Fort Slaughterdale, FL in April of 2021, was the beginning of my realization that most of the "liberty" movement was made up of captured, self-interested, socialist, snitching, overly educated, whiny little shits that compete with each other for "pwn/clap/cook" of the moment. There are few adults in the room. Grateful for those few. It didn't take much more to convince me of the corruption. Attending "Freedom Fest" in Rapid City, SD in July of 2021 was a solidifying moment. By that point, Brownstone Institute had already launched and we created a whole new "movement". It's such a freeing and cathartic feeling.
