In the April 7, 2026 undercover video released by James O’Keefe and O’Keefe Media Group, Bismarck Obando — spokesman for State Controller Malia Cohen — admits that critical audits simply “are not getting done.”

His words: “We just can’t conduct the audits.”

He even acknowledges that fraud exists across California government.

Exactly.

That’s the problem.

When the office responsible for protecting taxpayer dollars admits it can’t keep up with the audits, waste and fraud don’t magically disappear — they get harder to find.

That’s why my team and I have been digging through California’s finances and identified $425 BILLION in waste, fraud, and inefficiency over five years.

California doesn’t need another excuse for why the Controller’s Office can’t do its job.

It needs a Controller who knows how to follow the money.
